Racing Incident Report

DILIGENT III began very awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
From the outside barrier, MASTER GUNNER was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
Passing the 1600 Metres, EURO SWIFTLY was steadied when crowded for room between BLOSSOM DAILY and BETTER ANNOUNCE (N Callan) which shifted in. N Callan was severely reprimanded and advised that he must ensure that he rides in such a manner so as to avoid causing interference to other runners.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, HO WONGCHOY failed to muster speed and approaching the winning post on the first occasion was taken across behind runners in an endeavour to obtain a position with cover, however, was unable to do so and consequently raced wide and without cover for the majority of the race.
Passing the 1100 Metres, KINGSTON ELITE shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BLOSSOM DAILY, resulting in SAFARI MAGIC being taken wider.
Rounding the Home Turn, BLOSSOM DAILY became badly unbalanced when crowded for room inside EURO SWIFTLY which, after obtaining tight running to the inside of SAFARI MAGIC, was taken in slightly by that horse which shifted ground marginally.
Over the concluding stages, SAFARI MAGIC and DILIGENT III raced tight.
Also over the concluding stages, MASTER GUNNER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BETTER ANNOUNCE and because of this was not able to be fully tested.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BLOSSOM DAILY, Z Purton stated that after being loaded, BLOSSOM DAILY became fractious in the stalls and as the start was effected began only fairly. He said he had to ride BLOSSOM DAILY along in the early stages to take up a forward position. He said after becoming unbalanced passing the 1600 Metres when bumped on the hindquarters by EURO SWIFTLY, BLOSSOM DAILY then settled reasonably well. He said BLOSSOM DAILY was inclined to travel keenly when BETTER ANNOUNCE improved around his outside passing the 1200 Metres. He added he steadied BLOSSOM DAILY and allowed BETTER ANNOUNCE to cross his mount after the 900 Metres and BLOSSOM DAILY then commenced to travel kindly. He said the horse travelled satisfactorily until approaching the 400 Metres when it came under heavy pressure to maintain its position. He added rounding the Home Turn BLOSSOM DAILY became badly unbalanced when crowded for room, however, at this time the horse was already under pressure and commenced to give ground and he did not blame this incident for the disappointing run. He added in the Straight BLOSSOM DAILY gave ground noticeably and raced to him like a horse which may have an issue. He said because of the manner in which BLOSSOM DAILY gave ground, he eased it down after the 200 Metres. Trainer C Fownes stated that he was unable to offer any explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance as BLOSSOM DAILY had pleased him in the lead up to tonight’s race. He said based on the horse’s work he considered it to be a strong chance in the race. A veterinary inspection of BLOSSOM DAILY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of BLOSSOM DAILY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BLOSSOM DAILY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
BLOSSOM DAILY, KINGSTON ELITE and BETTER ANNOUNCE were sent for sampling.
