Racing Incident Report

WIN FOR YOUTH began only fairly.
NOBLE DESIRE and FARM BUMPER, which began only fairly, were inconvenienced soon after the start by ISLAND WINNER which shifted in.
From the outside barriers, FOR FUN’S SAKE and MANAGEMENT SUPREME were shifted across behind runners soon after the start.
After being steadied to avoid the heels of WINNING WAYS which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of WINNER’S HEART approaching the 800 Metres, FARM BUMPER began to travel keenly and got its head up for some distance.
ISLAND WINNER made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly and shifted out, inconveniencing WINNING WAYS and ZERO HEDGE.
NOBLE DESIRE had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and passing the 200 Metres and then at the 150 Metres was shifted out across the heels of FARM BUMPER to obtain a run.
After being awkwardly placed behind OVERSUBSCRIBED approaching the 150 Metres, WINNING WAYS then attempted to improve into tight running between that horse and ZERO HEDGE which improved quickly to its outside at the 100 Metres. After leaving the 100 Metres, WINNING WAYS was then steadied as a result of ZERO HEDGE (G van Niekerk) shifting in under pressure. As a consequence, WINNING WAYS remained held up and was unable to be tested over the concluding stages. As the Stewards found that WINNING WAYS had not properly established running between OVERSUBSCRIBED and ZERO HEDGE, no further action was taken other than to reprimand G van Niekerk who was advised that he must ensure that he makes every endeavour to keeps his mounts straight.
Throughout the race, OVERSUBSCRIBED travelled wide and without cover.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of V Borges, the rider of the 4th placegetter, NOBLE DESIRE, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he will nonetheless be reminded of his obligation to ensure that he rides his mounts out fully to the end of the race.
A veterinary inspection of WIN FOR YOUTH and ISLAND WINNER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WINNING WAYS, ZERO HEDGE and FARM BUMPER were sent for sampling.
