Racing Incident Report

FANTASY and LORIZ bumped at the start, resulting in LORIZ becoming unbalanced, shifting out and bumping POISED TO STRIKE which also became unbalanced.
WINNING ENDEAVOUR lost ground on jumping when crowded for room between STANLEY PARK and CALIFORNIA GUNGHO, both of which shifted ground.
From the outside barrier, MEHBOOB was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Despite being ridden along in the early and middle stages, WEALTHY DELIGHT failed to muster speed.
In the early stages, CANTSTOPTHEFEELING was left racing very wide and without cover and approaching the 800 Metres was allowed to improve its position to obtain the lead near the 600 Metres.
Approaching the 900 Metres, KEEP YOU WARM was steadied away from the heels of CALIFORNIA GUNGHO (K Teetan) which shifted in when not quite clear. K Teetan was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. After this, KEEP YOU WARM hung in badly and lost ground, resulting in GUY DRAGON, which was travelling keenly, being checked away from the heels of that horse for some distance. WINNING ENDEAVOUR, which was following GUY DRAGON, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
After the 700 Metres, FIRST RESPONDER was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 300 Metres, KEEP YOU WARM got its head on the side and shifted in away from FIRST RESPONDER, resulting in KEEP YOU WARM having to be checked away from the heels of STANLEY PARK.
Passing the 100 Metres, STANLEY PARK raced in restricted room between FIRST RESPONDER and CANTSTOPTHEFEELING. STANLEY PARK was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of FIRST RESPONDER after the 50 Metres when being directed to the outside of that horse. Consequently, STANLEY PARK was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
In the Straight, WEALTHY DELIGHT lay in and proved difficult to ride, particularly over the latter stages.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FANTASY, J Moreira stated that it was intended to obtain a position behind the leaders in the early stages. He said despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, FANTASY would not muster speed and was obliged to race much further back in the field than had been anticipated. He said FANTASY never travelled well at any stage of the race and made an abnormal breathing noise throughout. He said, despite being placed under pressure, FANTASY did not finish off the race. He added whilst he anticipated that the horse’s fitness would improve as a result of tonight’s race, nonetheless it was very disappointing in its failure to put itself into the race at any stage. A veterinary inspection of FANTASY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of FANTASY, favourite for tonight’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FANTASY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. As this was the second consecutive occasion that FANTASY had been reported to have made an abnormal breathing noise in its races, this matter will be brought to the attention of the Department of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy for its consideration.
A veterinary inspection of POISED TO STRIKE immediately following the horse found that horse to be distressed. Before being allowed to race again, POISED TO STRIKE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of LORIZ immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FANTASY, GUY DRAGON and FIRST RESPONDER were sent for sampling.
