Racing Incident Report

1 13 LUCKY SAM GOR (K114) Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. M F Poon reported that the instructions were to hold a midfield position with cover. He said when the horse began well he was able to hold a more forward position than anticipated. Sent for sampling post-race.
2 7 WITHOUT COMPARE (L151) From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. In the early stages raced keenly and near the 1200 Metres was steadied to avoid AKASHVANI when being shifted behind that horse.
3 14 BLAZING WUKONG (K335) Between the 400 Metres and the 250 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running. Leaving the 250 Metres was shifted to the outside of MIGHTY STEED to obtain clear running. Near the 100 Metres was disappointed for clear running to the outside of LUCKY SAM GOR and as a result was shifted in in an attempt to obtain clear running but was then steadied to avoid causing interference to TIN FOOK. As a result BLAZING WUKONG did not obtain clear running until approaching the 50 Metres. Sent for sampling post-race.
4 2 HELENE SUPAFEELING (L028) Jumped awkwardly. In the middle stages raced keenly and near the 1100 Metres got its head up when being checked away from LUCKY SAM GOR.
5 10 IVY LEAGUE (H116) Approaching the 100 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when improving between HELENE SUPAFEELING and BLAZING WUKONG.
6 3 AKASHVANI (K234) L Hewitson stated that he was given the option of holding a forward position if his mount commenced well. He said when AKASHVANI made contact with the right side of its starting gate on jumping and as a consequence jumped only fairly he elected to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages.
7 12 MIGHTY STEED (J384) No report.
8 8 GOLDEN EMPIRE (E490) No report.
9 9 TIN FOOK (K167) Between the 400 Metres and the 100 Meres was badly held up for clear running. After the 100 Metres TIN FOOK endeavoured to improve into a narrow run to the inside of BLAZING WUKONG and was then checked when crowded by BLAZING WUKONG which shifted in after its rider A Atzeni corrected his mount to prevent interference to IVY LEAGUE. A Atzeni was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
10 1 CIRCUIT GRAND SLAM (K201) Jumped only fairly. C Y Ho reported that he initially had a trailing position behind HELENE SUPAFEELING. He said when CHEAHA shifted out near the 800 Metres CIRCUIT GRAND SLAM was obliged to race very wide and without cover thereafter which resulted in it not being able to run on in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
11 5 CHEAHA (K567) No report.
12 11 KING OF SELECTION (K397) Jumped only fairly. From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
13 4 MASTER OF ALL (H177) M L Yeung reported that his mount travelled comfortably in the lead but failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DISQ 6 STORMY GROVE (K478) Jumped only fairly. Held up for clear running between the 450 Metres and the 300 Metres. Sent for sampling post-race.
<21/2/2026 STORMY GROVE (K478) - Race 11 – Sha Tin Racemeeting – 11 January 2026> The Racing Stewards have received advice from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Racing Laboratory that the post-race blood sample taken from STORMY GROVE (K478) after being placed second in Race 11 – Stanley Gap Handicap conducted at the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 11 January 2026, has been found to contain lidocaine. Analysis of the reserve portion of the sample conducted by the Laboratoire des Course Hippiques France has also confirmed the presence of lidocaine in the sample.
Trainer of STORMY GROVE, Mr F C Lor has been advised of the analytical findings. The matter has now adjourned to a date to be fixed to allow for further investigations into the matter to be conducted.
<10/3/2026 STORMY GROVE (K478) – Race 11 – Sha Tin Racemeeting - 11 January 2026 – Incident Report – 10 March 2026> Mr Lor pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 140(1) in that he as the trainer of STORMY GROVE did fail to ensure that STORMY GROVE was free of any prohibited substance on 11 January 2026, the day on which STORMY GROVE ran in Race 11 – Stanley Gap Handicap 1400 Metres conducted at the Sha Tin racemeeting on that day. Having regard to Mr Lor’s submissions on penalty and Mr Lor’s disciplinary record in respect to like offences he was fined the sum of $50,000.
Rule 138(2) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Rules of Racing provides that if a prohibited substance is detected in a horse on raceday that the horse be disqualified from any race in which it has competed in on that day, unless the Stewards are satisfied that the administration of, or exposure to, the prohibited substance occurred after the race. Accordingly, STORMY GROVE was disqualified from its second placing in Race 11 – Stanley Gap Handicap 1400 Metres conducted at the Sha Tin racemeeting on 11 January 2026.
