Racing Incident Report

SIGHT FIRST was withdrawn on 26.3.02 on veterinary grounds (wound to its off fore cannon). On leaving the gates, WINMARK was crowded for room between WINNING SPECIAL which shifted in abruptly and LUCKY MASTER which shifted out away from ELEGANCE. On jumping, CYBER WISDOM, which was steadied to take up a position at the rear close to the rail, threw its head about. Also on jumping, STAR OF TAI PO was ridden along to go forward and get in, was unable to do so and was obliged to race wide throughout. In the early and middle stages, WINMARK proved somewhat difficult to settle and pulled. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, WINNING YEARS hung out. Near the 400 Metres, CYBER WISDOM struck the running rail. When questioned, Apprentice M W Leung (ELEGANCE) said he had been instructed to push forward in the early stages and lead as has been the practice. He said ELEGANCE left the gates only fairly, just after the start as he was riding along in an endeavour to go forward, he was disappointed for running between MONEY WINS and LUCKY MASTER, as a consequence was steadied and shifted in to take up a position on the rails but about midfield. Then in the Straight ELEGANCE had a tendency to get in, because of this he stopped riding several times and straightened. WINMARK was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
