When questioned regarding the improved performance trainer stated that he had instructed rider to settle the horse where comfortable and endeavour to make a wide run in the Home Straight. He said after settling in a midfield position the horse was advantaged by being able to improve to the inside away from other horses and that was the only explanation he could offer for its improved performance in the event - Race 268.

He added when placed under pressure in the Home Straight his mount did not respond to his riding and raced in a somewhat disappointing manner - Race 357.
