Racing Incident Report
On arrival at the barriers, Z Purton, the rider of FREDERICK ENGELS, expressed concern over the action of the horse. FREDERICK ENGELS was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was lame in its right front leg and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of FREDERICK ENGELS. Before being allowed to race again, FREDERICK ENGELS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After being loaded, WINDICATOR STAR became fractious and as the start was effected began awkwardly and lost ground.
Near the 750 Metres, IMPERIAL ROME became unbalanced after making contact with CHARLES THE GREAT.
Throughout the race, RICH TAPESTRY and CAPTAIN SWEET travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SOLAR GREAT, D Whyte stated that he had ridden the horse in track work leading up to today’s race and that work was good. He said today SOLAR GREAT did not travel as it did at its most recent start when he rode the horse to success. He said he had to ride his mount along for some distance approaching and passing the 600 Metres to have it maintain its position and SOLAR GREAT would not have maintained its position had it not been ridden along at this time. He added SOLAR GREAT changed its leading leg on a number of occasions rounding the Home Turn and when placed under heavy pressure in the Straight got its head on the side and lay in. Trainer D J Hall stated that SOLAR GREAT had pleased him in the lead up to today’s race with the horse working well after competing in a barrier trial on 14 May 2013. He said he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of SOLAR GREAT and following today’s race SOLAR GREAT would not race again this season. A veterinary inspection of SOLAR GREAT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SOLAR GREAT, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SOLAR GREAT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SOLAR GREAT, CHARLES THE GREAT and BEST ELEVEN were sent for sampling.
