Racing Incident Report
SILVER GRECIAN and TURBO JEWELLERY were crowded for room at the start between FAIR TRADE and VITAL GOLD which shifted in.
CHATER WAY shifted out shortly after the start, resulting in DEEP THINKER being crowded for room out onto WRATH OF FIRE which was bumped. After this, WRATH OF FIRE was taken across behind runners.
From the outside barrier, WHY NOT was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
Passing the 750 Metres, DEEP THINKER got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of REAL GENEROUS which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GENKI TWINS. As a result, DEEP THINKER shifted out, resulting in WHY NOT being taken into a position wide and without cover.
At the 500 Metres, CHATER WAY was bumped by FAIR TRADE which shifted out to obtain clear running.
After being held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight, DEEP THINKER was crowded for room passing the 300 Metres when obtaining tight running between WRATH OF FIRE and REAL GENEROUS which shifted out.
Near the 200 Metres, SILVER GRECIAN was shifted to the inside of TURBO JEWELLERY and then near the 100 Metres was momentarily awkwardly placed between WINNIE’S HORSE and TURBO JEWELLERY.
Approaching the 100 Metres, GENKI TWINS was steadied away from the heels of REAL GENEROUS which got its head on the side and hung in under pressure.
For the major part of the race, PRESIDENT LINCOLN travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, M L Yeung stated that he had been asked to ride TURBO JEWELLERY where it was comfortable, but it was expected the horse would be able to race in about a midfield position over this distance. He said after being crowded for room at the start, TURBO JEWELLERY did not show early speed and therefore he had to ride the horse along after the 1300 Metres to have it travel in as forward a position as possible. He said he slapped the horse down the shoulder in an endeavour to have it improve its position, however, TURBO JEWELLERY was initially reluctant to improve its position in the early stages.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GENKI TWINS, D Whyte stated that he was able to obtain a good position on the horse in the early stages and GENKI TWINS travelled well throughout the early and middle stages. He said he placed GENKI TWINS under pressure prior to the Home Turn and whilst the horse was not showing any turn of foot, it initially stayed on one-paced in the early part of the Straight. He added however that GENKI TWINS then commenced to give ground from the 300 Metres and although the horse was awkwardly placed close to the heels of REAL GENEROUS near the 100 Metres, GENKI TWINS was well beaten at this time and, in his opinion, was most disappointing. A veterinary inspection of GENKI TWINS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FAIR TRADE and VITAL GOLD were sent for sampling.
