Racing Incident Report

From the outside barrier, WAH MAY STAR was taken across behind runners shortly after the start and then for the majority of the race travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, K C Leung stated that he had been instructed to be positive on LEADING CITY in the early stages and obtain a forward position. He said it was felt that WAH MAY STAR, from the outside barrier, may press forward and if this did eventuate, he should allow that horse to cross LEADING CITY and take a trailing position. He said after beginning awkwardly and shifting out shortly after the start and bumping the hindquarters of CERISE CHERRY, he rode his mount along to take up a forward position as instructed. He said although it was apparent to him that GO BABY GO, from a wide barrier, was going to cross LEADING CITY, he had to ride his mount along to clear BEST ELEVEN to his inside. He said after he was able to clear BEST ELEVEN near the 1000 Metres, he steadied his mount to allow GO BABY GO to cross. He added after the 800 Metres LEADING CITY, which was wearing blinkers for the first time today, commenced to prove difficult to settle and despite his attempts to restrain the horse, LEADING CITY improved its position to be racing closer to GO BABY GO than he had hoped. He said it was his intention to sit off GO BABY GO, but the manner in which LEADING CITY was racing prevented him from being able to do this. K C Leung was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he must, wherever possible, ride his mounts in such a manner that they are able to finish off their races.
A veterinary inspection of RICH TAPESTRY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DESTINED FOR GLORY, CERISE CHERRY and BEST ELEVEN were sent for sampling.
