Racing Incident Report
NAPA II shifted out at the start and bumped ALGARVE. C K Tong (BEST POWER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1500 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of CLASSIC REUNION, causing that horse to be taken in, resulting in VALUE CHOICE being checked and losing its rightful running and ALWAYS SOMETHING, which was racing to the inside of VALUE CHOICE, being checked. C K Tong was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 24 December 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 16 December 2009. In addition, C K Tong was fined $15,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. C K Tong also pleaded guilty to a further charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of ALWAYS SOMETHING, causing that horse to lose its rightful running. C K Tong was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 28 December 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 16 December 2009. The Stewards ruled that the terms of suspension be served concurrently. For some distance approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, ALWAYS SOMETHING proved difficult to settle when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ALGARVE. In the early part of the Straight, NAPA II and HEADSIWIN bumped as NAPA II was shifting to the outside of STOLEN THUNDER after being held up for clear running behind that horse. Also in the early part of the Straight, EURO SWIFTLY was inconvenienced by HEADSIWIN which shifted out slightly. Passing the 200 Metres, EURO SWIFTLY was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of HEADSIWIN which shifted out slightly. EURO SWIFTLY then had difficulty obtaining clear running for the remainder of the race and consequently was not tested. Throughout the race, BEST POWER travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of SUPER CHARGE after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SUPER CHARGE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER CHARGE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALGARVE and NAPA II were sent for sampling.
