Racing Incident Report

YOU KNOW I WIN began only fairly.
SHANTARAAM began awkwardly.
SUNNY YING shifted in at the start and bumped HOLYANGELHOLY.
When being steadied in the early stages in order to be shifted across behind runners, GENKI TWINS got its head up on a number of occasions and proved difficult to settle and then shortly after the start shifted in when continuing to prove difficult to settle, resulting in ENTHUSIASM being crowded for room outside GOLDEN WIDE. XILAI XIANZI, which was following GENKI TWINS, was checked away from the heels of that horse when GENKI TWINS was shifted out to relieve the tightening to ENTHUSIASM.
In the early stages, GOLDEN WIDE proved very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions.
Passing the 1400 Metres, ENTHUSIASM was shifted out abruptly when being checked away from the heels of GOLDEN WIDE.
Near the 1000 Metres, INTELLECTUALSTRIDE got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TRENDY WIN.
Also near the 1000 Metres, OWNERS’ PRIDE, SUNNY YING and GENKI TWINS all commenced to over-race.
Near the 150 Metres, OWNERS’ PRIDE was steadied when crowded for room between SUNNY YING and YOU KNOW I WIN which shifted out.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of OWNERS’ PRIDE, Z Purton stated that his mount was inclined to race keenly at various times during the early and middle stages due to the slow tempo of the race. He said after the 800 Metres OWNERS’ PRIDE commenced to travel more comfortably and at the entrance to the Straight he was able to shift the horse out into clear running. He said when placed under pressure, OWNERS’ PRIDE was disappointing in its failure to quicken as it had done at its previous start when successful and although OWNERS’ PRIDE was momentarily crowded for room near the 150 Metres, this had little bearing on the horse’s disappointing performance. He added that he had ridden the horse in an official barrier trial in the lead up to today’s race and, in his opinion, that trial was only fair. He said that after the race he recommended to connections that they consider freshening up OWNERS’ PRIDE. Trainer C S Shum stated that he will monitor the progress of OWNERS’ PRIDE in the days subsequent to the race before deciding on the horse’s future preparation. A veterinary inspection of OWNERS’ PRIDE after the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped.
When questioned, D Whyte stated that in the early stages YOU KNOW I WIN was inclined to get its head on the side and proved difficult to shift across beside runners. He said however that when INTELLECTUALSTRIDE shifted to the rail after the 900 Metres, YOU KNOW I WIN was able to obtain cover behind TRENDY WIN and the horse then commenced to travel more kindly. He said however that approaching the 600 Metres YOU KNOW I WIN again got its head on the side and commenced to hang out and for this reason he was not able to prevent INTELLECTUALSTRIDE from shifting away from the rail approaching the 500 Metres. He said rounding the Home Turn he placed YOU KNOW I WIN under pressure, however, in the early part of the Straight the horse immediately commenced to hang out badly and appeared to have its tongue over the bit. He added that he attempted to ride YOU KNOW I WIN as best as he was able given that the horse was hanging badly, however, he was reluctant to properly ride YOU KNOW I WIN along given the manner in which the horse was racing. He said he was of the belief that had he have relieved the pressure on the inside rein, the horse would have shifted out abruptly. He said for this reason he was not able to properly ride YOU KNOW I WIN out until after the 200 Metres. He added that at this time SUNNY YING improved its position outside YOU KNOW I WIN and it was only then that YOU KNOW I WIN commenced to race more tractably. He said although the horse continued to hang out, he was able to use the whip in the left hand. He said despite being able to ride the horse out to some degree over the concluding stages, YOU KNOW I WIN continued to hang out but not as badly as it had in the early part of the Straight. After reviewing the videos of the relevant parts of the race, the Stewards accepted the evidence given by Jockey Whyte. A veterinary inspection of YOU KNOW I WIN after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, YOU KNOW I WIN will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that HOLYANGELHOLY had sustained a wound to the right hind cannon and had twisted its right hind plate.
YOU KNOW I WIN, ALPHA GRAND and HOLYANGELHOLY were sent for sampling.
