Racing Incident Report
BAMBOO DANCE and IT CAN ONLY BE YOU bumped at the start.
STARLIT WARRIOR began very awkwardly and bounded in the air as the start was effected, resulting in its rider, M Chadwick, becoming unbalanced. STARLIT WARRIOR was then ridden along to obtain a forward position, however, was slow to muster speed and consequently travelled wide and without cover for the majority of the race and in the Straight gave ground.
POWER BLITZ began awkwardly.
ALL MY BENEFIT shifted in at the start, resulting in LITTLE WIND being crowded for room outside CRUISE CONTROL and causing both LITTLE WIND and CRUISE CONTROL to become unbalanced.
From wide barrier, LUCKY CHOICE, SURROUNDED and WINNING ADVANTAGE were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
M L Yeung (HAPPY KAISER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1400 Metres he permitted this mount to shift in when not clear of FUNNY FORTUNE, resulting in that horse being taken in across the rightful running of BAMBOO DANCE which was checked away from the heels of FUNNY FORTUNE. M L Yeung was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 7 April 2014 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). This suspension is with immediate effect. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Yeung’s good race riding record. In ruling that the suspension was to take immediate effect, the Stewards had in mind that M L Yeung would most likely not be fit to fulfil race riding engagements at the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday, 2 April 2014 due to an injury sustained to his left arm when dislodged from HAPPY BAO BEI during the running of Race 7 on the programme.
Passing the 500 Metres, FUNNY FORTUNE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HAPPY KAISER.
Near the 450 Metres, IT CAN ONLY BE YOU and CRUISE CONTROL raced tight as CRUISE CONTROL shifted out away from the heels of STARLIT WARRIOR.
Approaching the 400 Metres, PRINCE OF SUNSHINE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of IT CAN ONLY BE YOU when held up for clear running behind that horse.
Near the 350 Metres, LUCKY CHOICE was disappointed for running between STARLIT WARRIOR which was giving ground and ALL MY BENEFIT which shifted out after being taken out by FUNNY FORTUNE which itself was taken out slightly by HAPPY KAISER which got its head on the side and shifted out under pressure.
At the 300 Metres, IT CAN ONLY BE YOU, PRINCE OF SUNSHINE and WINNING ADVANTAGE were crowded for room between CRUISE CONTROL which shifted out and SURROUNDED which shifted in marginally. In this incident, WINNING ADVANTAGE and SURROUNDED made heavy contract, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. As the Stewards were of the opinion that there was no rider error involved with this incident, no further action was taken.
Approaching the 150 Metres, LUCKY CHOICE was shifted to the inside of BAMBOO DANCE (Z Purton) when disappointed for running outside that horse. Then passing the 100 Metres, LUCKY CHOICE was shifted out away from the heels of BAMBOO DANCE which shifted in. In this incident, YUAN’S FORTUNE momentarily raced in restricted room inside LUCKY CHOICE. Z Purton was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Over the concluding stages, LUCKY CHOICE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BAMBOO DANCE.
A veterinary inspection of WINNING ADVANTAGE and STARLIT WARRIOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FUNNY FORTUNE, HAPPY KAISER and BAMBOO DANCE were sent for sampling.
