Racing Incident Report
PRO FIT was withdrawn on 24.1.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetence) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter LOTUS BREEZE (T H So). Before being allowed to race again, PRO FIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
LOTUS BREEZE stood flat-footed as the start was effected and consequently lost a significant amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, LOTUS BREEZE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
IRON KING began awkwardly.
KING DRAGON became badly unbalanced and lost ground when crowded of room on jumping between SNOW AIRJET which shifted out marginally and SKYEY SUPREME which shifted in. In this incident, SKYEY SUPREME also lost ground after becoming unbalanced as a result of bumping KING DRAGON and then being awkwardly placed inside the heels of YES WE CAN which got its head on the side and shifted in.
HAPPY TANGO shifted out at the start and bumped COPARTNER ERA. After this, from wide barriers, both HAPPY TANGO and COPARTNER ERA were shifted across behind runners.
Making the turn after the 900 Metres, IRON KING commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when awkwardly placed behind YES WE CAN. After this, IRON KING continued to travel keenly and passing the 800 Metres shifted out away from the heels of YES WE CAN. IRON KING was then taken wider near the 700 Metres by YES WE CAN which shifted out. IRON KING was allowed to improve its position passing the 600 Metres and then was forced wider again by BETTER CHOICE approaching the 500 Metres. BETTER CHOICE and IRON KING bumped passing the 500 Metres.
COPARTNER ERA had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
SAM’S LOVE was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and then after the 300 Metres was awkwardly placed behind SKYEY SUPREME as that horse shifted out as SAM’S LOVE was endeavouring to improve to its outside. Near the 250 Metres, SAM’S LOVE was then shifted out away from the heels of SKYEY SUPREME to obtain clear running and was directed to the inside of IRON KING approaching the 100 Metres to continue improving.
Near the 350 Metres, FORTUNE BRILLIANT shifted in away from the heels of BETTER CHOICE and bumped the hindquarters of MISCHIEVOUS SUNDAE, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
Near the 300 Metres, T Piccone (GREAT TREASURE) dropped his whip.
Near the 150 Metres, YES WE CAN lay in away from GREAT TREASURE and consequently became awkwardly placed outside the heels of BETTER CHOICE.
Passing the 100 Metres, SKYEY SUPREME was momentarily awkwardly placed behind KING DRAGON (S de Sousa) as that horse shifted out under pressure. S de Sousa was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Over the concluding stages, IRON KING raced tight inside GREAT TREASURE.
Throughout the race, MISCHIEVOUS SUNDAE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
When questioned regarding the performance of FORTUNE BRILLIANT, M Chadwick stated that prior to the race it was felt that today’s race may not be run at a good tempo and therefore he rode his mount along in the early stages to obtain a more forward position than the horse had at its last start. He said the pace of the race was quicker than was anticipated and FORTUNE BRILLIANT was off the bridle at times throughout the middle stages. He said after shifting FORTUNE BRILLIANT into clear running in the early part of the Straight, his mount did not quicken as it did last start and then was disappointing over the concluding stages. He added he felt that FORTUNE BRILLIANT may not have appreciated being ridden in a more prominent position in today’s race and this may have been the reason for the horse’s failure to close off the race as it did last start. A veterinary inspection of FORTUNE BRILLIANT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of MISCHIEVOUS SUNDAE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BETTER CHOICE, GREAT TREASURE and SAM’S LOVE were sent for sampling.
