Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, GOLD STRIKER bounded in the air, bumped the outside gate of its stall and lost ground. Shortly after the start, FORTUNE PRINCESS was checked and GOLD STRIKER crowded for room between AWARD which shifted in and HEALTHY FRUITS which was carried out by THUNDER MAN. Near the 1500 Metres, FORTUNE PRINCESS was bumped by WINNING CAT which shifted in after becoming disunited in its action. At the 1400 Metres, WINNING CAT was checked away from the heels of NOBLE CHAMPION. For some distance near the 800 Metres, WINNING CAT was unbalanced after again becoming disunited in its action. At the 600 Metres, WINNING CAT, which continued to race ungenerously, was steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE PRINCESS. The racing manners of WINNING CAT were considered by the Stewards to be unacceptable. As this was the 3rd occasion on which WINNING CAT had performed in a similar manner, Mr S Woods, trainer of the horse, was advised WINNING CAT will be required to perform satisfactorily in a series of official barrier trials to be run on turf. In addition, Mr Woods was advised should WINNING CAT perform in a similar manner again, consideration will be given to recommending to the Board of Stewards that the horse be compulsorily retired. Prior to straightening, FORTUNE PRINCESS was awkwardly placed outside the heels of LUCKY CHAMPION. Near the 100 Metres, HEALTHY FRUITS, which was giving ground, became unbalanced when crowded for room between GOLD STRIKER and LUCKY CHAMPION which shifted out. C Soumillon (GOOD HEART) said he had been informed prior to the race that the horse had previously not shown a liking for rain affected tracks and he was to shift the horse which was racing in a rearward position towards the middle of the track in an attempt to find good going in the Home Straight. He said in accordance with those instructions on straightening he shifted to the outside of the field, commenced to ride GOOD HEART along hands and heels and the horse responded well. He said prior to the 200 Metres he pulled the whip through into the right hand and hit GOOD HEART on numerous occasions with the whip in the backhanded manner. He said whilst GOOD HEART made ground when being ridden in this manner its run ended about 100 Metres from the winning post. C Soumillon was told his explanation would be reported, however, he was to ensure at all times where circumstances permit he rode his mounts out in a manner which was not open to query. FORTUNE PRINCESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, FORTUNE PRINCESS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have an epiglottic entrapment (breathing obstruction). Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE PRINCESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOLD STRIKER, HONEY MONEY and LUCKY CHAMPION were sent for sampling.
