Racing Incident Report
With the intention of being ridden quietly from the outside barrier, shortly after the start SHINING DAY was taken across behind runners. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, JOY TRUMPS was carried wider by JUSTINIAN which was bumped and carried wider by NOBLE ZOOM which was racing tight outside ARROGANCE. Also approaching the winning post on the first occasion, LIGHTNING SPEED got its head on the side and shifted in away from ARROGANCE. Making the first turn, JOY TRUMPS was steadied and shifted to the inside of JUSTINIAN. At the 500 Metres, JUSTINIAN was steadied away from the heels of PRIME TARGET. Also at the 500 Metres, LAZY BUDDIES and HAPPY HEROES bumped on several occasions initially due to HAPPY HEROES shifting out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of JUSTINIAN and then as a result of LAZY BUDDIES endeavouring to hold its position. No action was taken. At the 300 Metres, JUSTINIAN was awkwardly placed inside the heels of MASTER ABLE. After the 300 Metres, JOY TRUMPS was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between PRIME TARGET and LIGHTNING SPEED which shifted out. After the 100 Metres, CASH IN got its head on the side and shifted in. Throughout the race, CASH IN travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of ARROGANCE, Apprentice H W Lai was unable to offer an explanation. He said the horse led as intended and was able to run the race at a suitable tempo. He said at the 400 Metres ARROGANCE came under pressure and failed to respond to his riding. ARROGANCE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, ARROGANCE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ARROGANCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LAZY BUDDIES and SHINING DAY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LAZY BUDDIES and SHINING DAY after the race did not show any significant findings. JOY TRUMPS and PRIME TARGET were sent for sampling.
