Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, LANDLORD stood flat-footed and lost a lot of ground. Before being permitted to race again, LANDLORD will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial (stalls test). When the gates opened, SINCERE AND FAITH bounded in the air. About the 900 Metres, EMPIRE COURT, which was proving difficult to settle, became unbalanced when crowded between CALL ME HANDSOME and SAINTLY PARTNERS. On straightening, CALL ME HANDSOME shifted out in an endeavour to go forward and made contact with EMPIRE COURT. About the 500 Metres, ELECTRONIC SEEKER became unbalanced when awkward on the heels of MEDIC HERO. Rounding the turn and in the early part of the Straight, ELECTRONIC SEEKER hung in. When questioned, W M Lai (EMPIRE COURT) said today from a difficult gate he had been instructed to ride the horse where it felt comfortable, however, he had been directed with the rail where it was today and the gate it was probably in EMPIRE COURT's interests not to go forward and try to lead. He said the horse jumped awkwardly with its head up, shifted out and made contact with SAINTLY PARTNERS, then near the 1000 Metres he became unbalanced when crowded between SAINTLY PARTNERS and CALL ME HANDSOME and he was of the view after this the horse was reluctant to stretch out as it should and got further out than was the intention. Mr T P Wong, Trainer of EMPIRE COURT, confirmed that because of the bad gate today, he had asked W M Lai to try and ride the horse somewhere about midfield if possible. He did say with a better draw EMPIRE COURT would have taken up a more prominent position in the race and if it draws better next run in a similar race, the horse will be ridden closer to the lead. It was decided that the explanations submitted by W M Lai and Mr Wong be accepted. When questioned regarding the performance of SAINTLY PARTNERS, W Woods said on the way to the barriers the horse was kicked on its near side hind leg by another runner. W Woods said on arriving at the barriers he reported this to the Veterinary Surgeon who examined the horse. The Veterinary Surgeon said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. W Woods also was of the view the horse was showing no signs of abnormalities whilst parading behind the gates. He said however on jumping from an outside stall SAINTLY PARTNERS proved difficult to settle, immediately started to hang in and was obliged to cover ground. Before being permitted to race again, SAINTLY PARTNERS will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. SAINTLY PARTNERS was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, it was reported that FAITHFUL ASSURANCE had bled from both nostrils.
