Racing Incident Report
SELF FLIT was withdrawn on 17.5.02 on veterinary grounds (a stone bruise off side front foot) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter DANDY BUNNY (B Fayd'herbe). Before being permitted to race again, SELF FLIT will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. On jumping, TOM'S FIRST and SUCCESSFUL SPIRIT brushed. DANDY BUNNY left the gates slowly, then in the early stages appeared reluctant to stretch out. Just after the start, HOROSCOPE was steadied when crowded between MASTER MAGIC which shifted out slightly and SUCCESSFUL SPIRIT which shifted in after making contact with TOM'S FIRST which was being ridden forward. Just after the 400 Metres, LOMOND'S FAY was steadied and changed course to avoid KOH-I-NOOR which was stopping. When asked about the disappointing performance of KOH-I-NOOR, S Dye said last time he rode the horse the intention was to be in the first 2 or 3 if possible, KOH-I-NOOR missed the start and got much further back than planned. He said in a trial before today's race, KOH-I-NOOR had again missed the start and therefore the assistance of a barrier attendant had been sought for KOH-I-NOOR today. S Dye said the horse left the gates satisfactorily and then the intention was to go forward from an outside gate. He said he did think he was going to find a position towards the front one off the rail, but when LOMOND'S FAY kicked up inside him, he thought he had no alternative but to press forward and race outside the leader. S Dye did say because of the manner in which the race was run in the early stages, he had to make more use of KOH-I-NOOR than he wanted to, however, the horse was generally very disappointing and he was aware near the 800 Metres that KOH-I-NOOR would not be figuring in the finish of today's race. KOH-I-NOOR was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
