Racing Incident Report

PRECIOUS SWEETIE was withdrawn on 30.9.02 on veterinary grounds (lame right fore) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter MENDOZA (M Cahill). Before being allowed to race again, PRECIOUS SWEETIE will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. Just as the gates opened, GRAND FIGHTER bounded in the air, threw its head up, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of KOH-I-NOOR. BACCURA was slowly away, then in the Straight hung in. On jumping, UNIVERSAL CHARGER shifted out, then from its outside gate was steadied to take up a position towards the rear but closer to the rail. In the early stages, KIMBERLEY MINES, which was being ridden to find cover, proved difficult to settle and pulled. Also in the early stages, FLAMENCO STAR was racing wide without cover, then near the 800 Metres was ridden along to go forward and take up a position outside the leader. From about the 800 Metres onwards, HALO KING PRAWN hung out badly. From about the 800 Metres until after straightening, CHIEF IVOR was awkwardly placed behind HALO KING PRAWN which was hanging and not travelling well. As a consequence of this, CHIEF IVOR was taken back towards a rearward position and to obtain running in the Straight was shifted out. Near the 700 Metres, KOH-I-NOOR was momentarily tightened by MENDOZA which hung in away from CHIEF IVOR. Near the 400 Metres, MENDOZA was disappointed for running between HALO KING PRAWN and KIMBERLEY MINES. About the 300 Metres, MENDOZA was steadied and shifted to the inside of KIMBERLEY MINES to find running. About 300 Metres out, KIMBERLEY MINES was shifted abruptly to the outside of GREEN CENTURY which was not going on and shifted away from FLAMENCO STAR. The Stewards will allow D Dunn (GREEN CENTURY) an opportunity of explaining the somewhat disappointing performance of the horse next Sunday 6 October 2002 at the Sha Tin Race Course. GREEN CENTURY and HALO KING PRAWN were sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. GRAND FIGHTER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, the clinical examinations of GREEN CENTURY, HALO KING PRAWN and GRAND FIGHTER were carried out. No abnormalities were detected. KOH-I-NOOR and UNIVERSAL CHARGER were sent for sampling.
