Racing Incident Report

ALWAYS ZIETEN was withdrawn on 13.5.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SIXTY SECONDS. Before being allowed to race again, ALWAYS ZIETEN will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. EXULTATION was slow to begin. On jumping, LATTE and UNIVERSAL GLORY bumped. MULTIPERFECTION began awkwardly. Making the first turn, SHABU SHABU became unbalanced and was steadied when awkwardly placed outside the heels of UNIVERSAL GLORY. Near the 1000 Metres, EXULTATION, which was proving difficult to settle, bumped the running rail when being crowded inside LUCKY ENCOUNTER which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of UNIVERSAL GLORY. In the middle stages, LUCKY ENCOUNTER hung in. On straightening, EXULTATION was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of VICTORY MOUNT. This caused inconvenience to UNIVERSAL GLORY and SHABU SHABU. Near the 100 Metres, SIXTY SECONDS was brushed by UNIVERSAL GLORY. B Prebble (LONGMARK) said he had been instructed to ride the horse where it was comfortable. He said he had been told LONGMARK is a free going horse and it was not to be restrained. He said LONGMARK began well and raced inside LATTE in the early stages, however, when that horse was continually ridden to go forward, he was unable to hold it out and therefore he elected to take a trail. He said at the 600 Metres he shifted his mount away from the fence and placed it under pressure, however, it failed to respond to his riding and gave ground quickly in the Straight. LONGMARK was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of LONGMARK after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, LONGMARK will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. LATTE and EXULTATION were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported he had conducted an endoscopic examination of SAMMY TREASURE. This showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SAMMY TREASURE will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 15 May 2003) :
After the race, LONGMARK, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. LONGMARK was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer T K Ng this morning and was found to be stiff in both hind legs.
As previously advised, LONGMARK will be required to pass an official veterinary examination before racing again.
