Racing Incident Report

ROMANTIC SYMPHONY began awkwardly, bumped the outside of its gate and lost ground. CHEERS CHINA began awkwardly, shifted out and brushed MARK OF EXCELLENCE. At the 1400 Metres, MAGICAL WARRIOR shifted out when not clear of ACROBATIC which as a result was steadied. At the same time, LUCKY OWNERS, which had its head turned out, shifted in abruptly when not clear of ZIETENGO BOY which itself was being shifted out away from ACROBATIC. In this incident, ZIETENGO BOY lost its running and became unbalanced. In all the circumstances, no action was taken. At the 700 Metres, ZIETENGO BOY was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of CHEERS CHINA which commenced to give ground. After the 500 Metres, ROMANTIC SYMPHONY was severely checked to avoid the heels of CHEERS CHINA which was giving ground quickly in front of it. Also after the 500 Metres, BEAUTIFUL LIFE was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of CHEERS CHINA. At the 400 Metres, TRIUMPHANT FEELING was shifted to the outside of ZIETENGO BOY to obtain clear running. In the early part of the Straight, SEASONS TREASURE hung in and near the 300 Metres was momentarily steadied when having difficulty obtaining a clear run between STRONG GALLOP and MAGICAL WARRIOR, both of which were giving ground. Over the concluding stages, KONRAD THE GREAT hung out. W C Marwing (CHEERS CHINA) said he had been instructed if possible to lead on the horse. He said he rode it along in the early stages and raced outside LUCKY OWNERS, however, at the 800 Metres the horse commenced to give ground despite his riding. He said in the Straight when CHEERS CHINA was giving ground quickly, it made an abnormal breathing noise. CHEERS CHINA was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, CHEERS CHINA was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed evidence that the horse was likely to have displaced its soft palate. Before being permitted to race again, CHEERS CHINA will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S Dye (MARK OF EXCELLENCE) said in the early stages he was held three wide when ROMANTIC SYMPHONY continued to race one horse off the fence despite having no runners to its inside. He said after the 1000 Metres ROMANTIC SYMPHONY attempted to improve its position and to avoid being carried wider this meant he had to commence riding MARK OF EXCELLENCE along at that time. He said in the early part of the Straight he used the whip on MARK OF EXCELLENCE, however, the horse did not feel to him as though it was appreciating tonight's track as it did not seem to let down properly. He said he therefore rode MARK OF EXCELLENCE hands and heels over the concluding stages in an endeavour to assist it. He said in the past MARK OF EXCELLENCE had shown an appreciation for tracks with more give than that of tonight's. The explanations of S Dye were accepted. MARK OF EXCELLENCE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, MARK OF EXCELLENCE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. LUCKY OWNERS and ACROBATIC were sent for sampling.
