Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, SALUT BEAUTE became fractious, then was slow to begin and as a result got well back. COMME D'HABITUDE began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and lost ground, then in the early and middle stages hung out. In the early stages, HANDBAG DRAGON hung in. On straightening, WISHMASTER was steadied when disappointed for running between WELL BEST which commenced to give ground and STRONGHEART which got its head on the side and shifted out. At the 200 Metres, STRONGHEART and SUPER SPRINT bumped due to both horses shifting ground. After this, STRONGHEART continued to hang out and proved difficult to ride. Over the concluding stages, MARANELLO got its head on the side, lay in and proved difficult to ride out. D Dunn (BRILLIANT EXPRESS) said the horse travelled well in a rearward position as expected and he felt during the run that after straightening the horse would quicken. He said on straightening he immediately placed BRILLIANT EXPRESS under pressure, however, the horse did not respond as he anticipated and in his opinion raced like a horse that was in need of a spell. BRILLIANT EXPRESS and WELL BEST were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, BRILLIANT EXPRESS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. Following the race, WELL BEST was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings, however, he did note the horse had lost its left front plate. SIR OCTAVIUS, SMILING FOREST and BACCHUS were sent for sampling. Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported WISHMASTER had lost its right front plate.
