Racing Incident Report

WINNING TOUCH was withdrawn on 8.3.03 on veterinary grounds (cut right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TWIN WIZARDS (Y T Cheng). Before WINNING TOUCH can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. NIGHT HUNTER II and FIGARO were difficult to load. Before being permitted to race again, NIGHT HUNTER II and FIGARO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. On jumping, JUST TOO GOOD blundered and lost ground. When the gates opened, NEW DYNASTY turned its head to the left hand side, was a little slow to begin, then shortly after the start became unbalanced when brushed by WELL CONTEND which was also slow to begin. In the middle stages, NEW DYNASTY hung out. Shortly after straightening, UNITY, which was commencing to give ground, was brushed by RENA'S WUNDERBAR which was endeavouring to shift out to find clear running. For some distance near the 300 Metres, WELL CONTEND was held up and unable to obtain clear running behind TWIN WIZARDS and JUST TOO GOOD. FIGARO, which was following, was also held up for running. At about the 300 Metres, TWIN WIZARDS broke down and was eased out of the race. Throughout the race, MAESTRO was obliged to race wide and without cover. Trainer D A Hayes (PERFECT VISION) said the improved performance of the horse today was unexpected by the stable. He said the horse was fancied by the stable at its most recent start at Sha Tin on 16 February 2003, however, on that occasion had been disappointing. He said in the past PERFECT VISION had shown itself not to be genuine and had mixed form. He said he had not varied the horse's work leading up to today's race and was unable to explain the performance. MAESTRO was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, MAESTRO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination was carried out. This showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being permitted to race again, MAESTRO will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. JUST TOO GOOD, PERFECT VISION and RENA'S WUNDERBAR were sent for sampling.
