Racing Incident Report

BY INSTINCT was withdrawn on 8.3.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CIRCUIT KINGDOM (K S Yu). EASTERN PURPLE was also withdrawn on 8.3.03 on veterinary grounds (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter LOYAL DEVOTION (R Fradd). Before being allowed to race again, BY INSTINCT and EASTERN PURPLE will both be required to pass an official veterinary examination. On jumping, GLORY HERO stumbled and was then bumped by WOODSON which got its head up and shifted in abruptly. Also on jumping, INDUBITABLY BLISS was bumped by LOYAL DEVOTION which shifted out. MR BASKETBALL, which was fractious after being boxed, bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. Shortly after the start, TEMMOKU was steadied away from the heels of REWARD after being carried out by BRUIN SUPREME. From a wide gate, FLORAL KING was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to race on the rail. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, ISLAND WEST TREBLE was steadied when crowded for room between ZIETENGO BOY and GLORY HERO which after losing ground at the start was being hard ridden to improve. Shortly after this, GLORY HERO, DANRIVA and BRUIN SUPREME were crowded for room inside REWARD which got its head on the side and shifted in away from CELESTIAL MAGIC which was also shifting in. In the circumstances, no action was taken. After this incident, BRUIN SUPREME then hung out and made the first turn wide on the track. After the 800 Metres, TEMMOKU shifted out from behind ISLAND WEST TREBLE in an endeavour to improve on the outside of that horse. As TEMMOKU was improving, ISLAND WEST TREBLE itself shifted out and TEMMOKU was unable to continue forward. At the 600 Metres, TEMMOKU was steadied away from the heels of ISLAND WEST TREBLE which shifted further. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, CELESTIAL MAGIC hung out, shifted ground and caused REWARD to be carried wider. Near the 600 Metres, LOYAL DEVOTION lost ground after becoming unbalanced when close to the heels of INDUBITABLY BLISS and tight inside ZIETENGO BOY while hanging out. In the early part of the Straight, FLORAL KING lay in and proved difficult to shift to the outside of REWARD to obtain clear running. For some distance after the 200 Metres, MR BASKETBALL raced in restricted room to the inside of INDUBITABLY BLISS which was giving ground. After the 200 Metres, REWARD was hit on the jaw by the whip of M Kinane (CELESTIAL MAGIC). DANRIVA was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, INDUBITABLY BLISS and DANRIVA were examined by the Veterinary Officer. Endoscopic examinations were carried out. These showed DANRIVA to have a significant amount of mucus in the trachea and INDUBITABLY BLISS to have an epiglottic entrapment (a breathing abnormality). Before racing again, both horses will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. CELESTIAL MAGIC, LOYAL DEVOTION and TEMMOKU were sent for sampling.
