Racing Incident Report

BUENO BUENO began awkwardly, got its head up and shifted out. TOUCH DOWN bounded in the air at the start. MANSFIELD STAR bounded in the air at the start and began awkwardly. Near the winning post the first time, ELITE WIN and ALLEGRO were checked when crowded for room between WORLD STAR and ME AND YOU which was taken in slightly by BACCURA (B Prebble). In the circumstances, B Prebble was severely reprimanded and told he would be expected to ensure he is clear of other runners when shifting ground. Near the 1000 Metres, ALLEGRO became unbalanced and shifted out to avoid the heels of TOUCH DOWN. At the 1000 Metres, ELITE WIN was steadied away from the heels of ME AND YOU. Near the 500 Metres, WORLD STAR was crowded for room inside ME AND YOU which was racing tight inside BACCURA which was giving ground. O REI made the Home Turn awkwardly, got its head on the side and shifted out. Near the 200 Metres, TOUCH DOWN was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of O REI which was giving ground. After the 200 Metres, MANSFIELD STAR, which was closing the race off nicely, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of BRAVISSIMO. W M Lai (HAPPY ECLIPSE), which was stepping up to the distance of 1650 Metres tonight, explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in 7th or 8th position. He said the horse obtained a nice run throughout the race, he dropped his whip at the 300 Metres and the horse did not finish the race off as was anticipated. D Dunn (WHATA FEELING) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in about 4th or 5th position as usual. He said WHATA FEELING began well and immediately travelled into a forward position on the outside of O REI. He said after passing the winning post on the first occasion, BACCURA improved to race on his outside, shifted in and made contact with WHATA FEELING, as a result of this WHATA FEELING commenced to over-race and as the pace was not as strong as he had anticipated, he allowed WHATA FEELING to go forward and crossed to the fence in the lead. The explanations submitted by D Dunn were accepted. WHATA FEELING was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, WHATA FEELING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. ALLEGRO was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of ALLEGRO after the race did not show any significant findings. O REI, BUENO BUENO and TOUCH DOWN were sent for sampling. Following the race, Mr C Fownes, assistant trainer to Mr L Fownes, reported BACCURA to have bled from both nostrils on return to its holding stable. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer and he confirmed the horse to be a bleeder.
