Racing Incident Report

MAN OF HONOUR began awkwardly, got its head up, shifted in and bumped MINE HOST, then in the early and middle stages proved difficult to settle. SERIOUS PLAY was slow to begin. SURVEYOR began awkwardly and bumped the inside of its barrier. In the early part of the Straight, MINE HOST was held up and unable to obtain clear running behind SPLENDID PATROL and inside MAN OF HONOUR. Near the 200 Metres, MINE HOST endeavoured to shift MAN OF HONOUR out to obtain a clear run, was unable to do so, then near the 100 Metres MINE HOST obtained clear running between SPLENDID PATROL and MAN OF HONOUR as a result of MAN OF HONOUR shifting out. In the Straight, PEAK POWER (W M Lai) hung in and proved difficult to ride out. W M Lai dropped his whip at about the 100 Metres. S Dye (MULTIWINNING) explained he was under firm instructions from the trainer, Mr J Size, to ride it in a rearward position as is normal and not to leave the fence. He said he and Mr Size were of the opinion the track tonight clearly favoured horses racing on the rail. He said in accordance with these instructions on jumping he immediately shifted MULTIWINNING across to the rail but near the rear, the horse then proved somewhat difficult to settle in the early and middle stages which is usual. He said in view of the strict riding instructions he had been issued, he elected to remain on the fence after the 600 Metres despite there being an opportunity to improve between CELLINI and MAGIC HANDS in front of him. He added to have done so would have meant he would then be racing behind SUN SHINE RIVER which was not travelling well at that time. He said on straightening there was no running available for him close to the rail, so he shifted his mount to the outside of SUN SHINE RIVER and inside PEAK POWER which was hanging in. He said at that time the horses in front of him were not going forward and he became aware CELLINI was making a strong run through the field to his inside, so he elected to shift in and endeavoured to follow that horse through, however, over the concluding stages he was not able to obtain clear running and as a result he had to steady his mount off the heels of CELLINI and was not able to ride his mount out. The Stewards will confirm with Mr Size the riding instructions issued to S Dye before concluding this matter. MULTIWINNING, MINE HOST and CELLINI were sent for sampling.
