Racing Incident Report
After arriving on the course, it was noted LOK WAH TREASURE had sustained a laceration to the point of the left hip. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer and considered suitable to race. FABULOUS began awkwardly and lost a significant amount of ground at the start. Near the 1700 Metres, LA MERVEILLE was checked when crowded for room between WATCHMAN and FORTUNE LAD which at this time got its head on the side and hung in away from THE RICH MAN after being brushed by that horse. At the same time, WATCHMAN was being crowded for room on the outside of TWEET. After this, FORTUNE LAD continued to hang in and proved difficult to ride, then making the Home Turn hung out and in the Straight gave ground. After the 1200 Metres, when being steadied away from the heels of PEARL AND GOLD which at this time crossed to the fence in the lead, UNIVERSAL GLORY lost ground. WINNING ASSOCIATES, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of UNIVERSAL GLORY which in turn caused crowding behind it to FABULOUS and TWEET. As a result, FABULOUS was checked and inconvenience was caused to LA MERVEILLE which was following that horse. In the middle stages, LOK WAH TREASURE proved difficult to settle, then at the 1000 Metres was shifted out and allowed to improve gradually around the field when racing wide without cover. After the 200 Metres, WATCHMAN got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE LAD which was hanging in. For a short distance after the 200 Metres, LA MERVEILLE had some difficulty obtaining clear running inside UNIVERSAL GLORY and behind PEARL AND GOLD. In the Straight, TWEET hung out and near the 100 Metres was steadied away from the heels of WINNING ASSOCIATES. S K Sit (PEARL AND GOLD) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in about midfield but if possible do his utmost to find the fence. He said tonight PEARL AND GOLD began extremely well, he therefore decided to immediately ride his mount along in the hope that he was able to go forward and obtain a position near the fence. He said he was surprised with the speed shown by PEARL AND GOLD and the fact that it raced keenly in the early stages, he therefore elected to continue on and allow PEARL AND GOLD to cross to the fence in the lead. He said after obtaining the lead he then elected to steady the pace of the race. The explanation of S K Sit was accepted. FORTUNE LAD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. MONEY EXPRESS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of FORTUNE LAD and MONEY EXPRESS after the race did not show any significant findings. LOK WAH TREASURE and PEARL AND GOLD were sent for sampling.
