Racing Incident Report

After passing the winning post on the first occasion, MADE IN HONGKONG was checked when crowded for room inside X-SPEED (A Marcus) which was shifting in when improving inside DANEPRINT which was also shifting in. As it was felt there was some contribution from DANEPRINT, A Marcus was severely reprimanded and told he should exercise more care. Near the 400 Metres, HIGHLAND DAWN, which was laying in, was steadied away from the heels of DIVINE FEELING. Near the 250 Metres, HIGHLAND DAWN, which was giving ground, was checked when crowded for room between ACCLAMATION which shifted in slightly and X-SPEED which when improving shifted out to avoid the heels of HAPPY KID which at this time was giving ground quickly. In the circumstances, no action was taken. A Marcus said it had been intended to ride the horse in a forward position as it was felt NEW MILESTONE would ensure the race was run at a reasonable tempo. He said X-SPEED began only fairly and he immediately decided to shift across behind runners as in his opinion if he had gone forward he would have been obliged to race wide and without cover. The explanation submitted by A Marcus was accepted. C Williams (DANEPRINT) said he had been instructed to go forward and obtain cover if possible. He said however after beginning fairly he immediately made the decision to shift DANEPRINT across behind runners from its wide barrier to ensure it had cover. He added throughout the race DANEPRINT hung out. G Mossé (DIVINE FEELING) said he had been instructed to go forward on the horse which was racing in a one-eyed blinker tonight and attempt to find the fence as in the past the horse had hung in. He said in accordance with those instructions he rode along in the early stages, however, GOLDEN SPIRIT maintained a position to his inside, therefore he raced two wide and without cover. He said DIVINE FEELING tonight again hung in badly and because of this he hit it forward of the saddle on two occasions in the Back Straight, the second of which accidentally hit the horse's neck. He said DIVINE FEELING continued to hang in and in the Straight gave ground badly. DIVINE FEELING was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of DIVINE FEELING after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of DIVINE FEELING was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, DIVINE FEELING will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. R Fradd (HAPPY KID) said he had been instructed to ride the horse which had drawn the outside barrier in a forward position with cover if possible. He pointed out HAPPY KID was stepping up in distance tonight and racing for the first time over 1650 Metres. He said in accordance with the instructions he rode forward in the early stages, however, he was unable to obtain cover and was obliged to race three wide throughout. He said on straightening HAPPY KID commenced to give ground. HAPPY KID was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of HAPPY KID after the race did not show any significant findings. SUNRISE RAINBOW and FOREVER WIN were sent for sampling.
