Racing Incident Report

Just prior to the gates opening, DASH AHEAD became fractious. Apprentice M W Leung, the rider of the horse, reached out with his right arm to take hold of a partition in the barriers. The gates then opened and DASH AHEAD was slow to begin. PEAK POWER was slow to begin. On jumping, FAT CHANCE shifted out and bumped WINNING KEVIN. On straightening, MOMENTUM was steadied when close to the heels of GREEN IN BLUE. In the early part of the Straight, SONGS OF PRAISE was bumped and carried wider by LUCKSWELL which was shifting to the outside of ELEPHANT DANCE to obtain clear running. Also in the early part of the Straight, PERFETTO had difficulty obtaining clear running. Near the 300 Metres, PEAK POWER was steadied when disappointed for running between GREEN IN BLUE and SONGS OF PRAISE which shifted out after being bumped by LUCKSWELL. Shortly after this, PEAK POWER was again steadied when disappointed for running between GREEN IN BLUE and SONGS OF PRAISE. For some distance after this, PEAK POWER was not able to obtain clear running. Also near the 300 Metres, FAT CHANCE was steadied when crowded for room between MOMENTUM and UNIVERSAL CHARGER which was racing tight inside LUCKY HANDS. At the 200 Metres, UNIVERSAL CHARGER was brushed by LUCKY HANDS which shifted in. After the 200 Metres, MOMENTUM was momentarily steadied when PEAK POWER shifted out. Over the concluding stages, LUCKY HANDS hung out. For the majority of the race, SONGS OF PRAISE raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. G Schofield (SONGS OF PRAISE) said near the 800 Metres LUCKSWELL made a loud abnormal breathing noise and he looked to his inside as he was concerned that horse might have bled. G Schofield was advised to refrain from unnecessary looking around during races. LUCKSWELL, ELEPHANT DANCE and UNIVERSAL CHARGER were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported he had examined LUCKY HANDS and an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY HANDS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
