Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, FORTUNE DANCER and BY MEMORY bounded in the air and lost ground. FAIRPLAY began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped COMME D'HABITUDE. SMART CHIEF was a little slow to begin. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, BY MEMORY after losing ground at the start was ridden along to improve its position on the inside of SUPER WONGCHOY (G Schofield) which had initially drawn to its inside. After passing the winning post the first time, BY MEMORY became unbalanced and was checked when crowded for room inside SUPER WONGCHOY which at that time shifted in slightly. In the circumstances, the Stewards believed that by being ridden along to improve its position on the inside of SUPER WONGCHOY, BY MEMORY had contributed to the incident, however, G Schofield was severely reprimanded and told it is his responsibility to ensure that he is clear of other runners before shifting ground. At the 700 Metres, COMME D'HABITUDE was momentarily steadied away from the heels of FAIRPLAY. Some inconvenience was caused to TEMMOKU which was following. Throughout the race, FAIRPLAY hung out, making the Home Turn and in the Straight hung out badly and because of this was not ridden out. FAIRPLAY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of FAIRPLAY after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of FAIRPLAY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FAIRPLAY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. F Coetzee (EXPLOSIVE POWER) explained after making the turn at the 700 Metres, his mount was not travelling well, he commenced to ride along, however, it failed to pick up the bit, he therefore shifted it away from the fence in an attempt to find some clear running hoping his mount would then travel better. He said when he shifted away from the fence near the 500 Metres, SUPER WONGCHOY improved quickly on his inside and when doing so G Schofield, that horse's rider, called to ensure he did not allow EXPLOSIVE POWER to shift back in. F Coetzee was told his explanation would be recorded and he should at all times where circumstances permit hold a favourable position. O Doleuze (FREEBIRD) explained the horse hung out throughout, raced most ungenerously in the middle stages when ARROGANCE improved on his outside, then on straightening shifted out abruptly and bumped SUPER SPRINT. He said because of the manner in which the horse raced, it failed to finish tonight's race off. The performance of FREEBIRD was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FREEBIRD will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FREEBIRD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, FREEBIRD was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. SUPER WONGCHOY and SUPER SPRINT were sent for sampling.
