Racing Incident Report

Just prior to the gates opening, HAPPY PARTNERS sat back and consequently was slow to begin. Also just prior to the gates opening, SHINING DRAGON put its head down, then began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped CHINOOK. DASHING WINNER bounded in the air when the gates opened. MASTER GIGOLO began awkwardly. Making the first turn, GOOD TRIO was steadied away from the heels of BOLD VISION. Also making the first turn, SHINING DRAGON was bumped by CHINOOK which shifted in. Near the 800 Metres, DASHING WINNER got its head up while being steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BOLD VISION. Near the 500 Metres, FAT CHANCE was momentarily steadied away from the heels of HAPPY PARTNERS. Approaching the Home Turn, GOOD TRIO was held up and unable to improve. Just prior to straightening, DASHING WINNER was steadied and shifted to the inside of CHINOOK in an endeavour to find clear running. After the 400 Metres, DASHING WINNER was then steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of KIMBERLEY MINES which was giving ground. Over the concluding stages, GOOD TRIO hung in. M Zahra (BOLD VISION) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in 3rd or 4th position if possible. He said BOLD VISION began best, however, a number of runners were hard ridden to maintain their positions on his inside and he felt he would not have been able to clear those runners and cross to the fence, therefore he elected to steady BOLD VISION and shift to a position behind PACKING ANGEL with cover. He said when he did this after the 1400 Metres, PACKING ANGEL then steadied in front of him and came back out of a forward position which resulted in him being carried back and in turn racing further back than was intended. M Zahra was told his explanation would be recorded. K S Yu (CHINOOK) was fined $6,000 for attempting to weigh out initially for this race when not wearing a body protector [Rule 94(3)]. In arriving at what they believed to be an appropriate penalty, the Stewards took into account when subsequently weighing out in an approved body protector, K S Yu was able to make the weight to ride CHINOOK. KIMBERLEY MINES and ONE MORE ROUND, which finished distanced, were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of both KIMBERLEY MINES and ONE MORE ROUND after the race did not show any significant findings. The performances of KIMBERLEY MINES and ONE MORE ROUND were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KIMBERLEY MINES and ONE MORE ROUND will both have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOOD TRIO, SURE FIT and MASTER GIGOLO were sent for sampling.
