Racing Incident Report

G Mossé (SUPER DANA), D Whyte (GOOD BOY), G Schofield (NEW CENTURY), T Mundry (ALLEGRO) and C Williams (POSEIDON) were all fined $2,000 for being late to the Parade Ring. LOK WAH TREASURE began awkwardly and got its head up. POSEIDON began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. ALLEGRO was a little slow to begin and then was hard ridden to go forward. Shortly after the start, TEA FOR CHAMP was brushed by PORT OF HOPE which was carried in by GOOD BOY which on jumping shifted ground. Shortly after the start, D Whyte (GOOD BOY) reached down with his right hand and adjusted his foot in the stirrup. Near the 1600 Metres, MULTI RANSOM was steadied to avoid the heels of ETERNAL FUN which got its head on the side and shifted in away from ALWAYS ZIETEN (Apprentice H W Lai) which was shifting in when not properly clear. Apprentice Lai was told to ensure he leaves sufficient room for runners on his inside. After the 1600 Metres, GOOD BOY was steadied when awkwardly placed inside PORT OF HOPE and close to the heels of TEA FOR CHAMP. At the 800 Metres, MULTI RANSOM was steadied when awkwardly placed outside ALLEGRO and inside the heels of UNIVERSAL GLORY. At the same time, LOK WAH TREASURE was checked when disappointed for running between POSEIDON and TEA FOR CHAMP which at that time shifted in momentarily. No action was taken. After the 800 Metres, ALLEGRO, which continued to be hard ridden, was inclined to get its head on the side and shifted out, then near the 700 Metres shifted ground and made contact with MULTI RANSOM. On straightening, LOK WAH TREASURE, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of BURST TO VICTORY, however, for some distance was unable to obtain clear running on the outside of that horse and inside TEA FOR CHAMP, then after the 400 Metres was steadied and shifted back in to the inside of NEW CENTURY to obtain clear running, was then ridden along and after the 200 Metres was again steadied away from the heels of MULTI RANSOM when having difficulty obtaining clear running to the inside of that horse. After the 400 Metres, GOOD BOY was steadied and shifted to the inside of DRAGON WIN to obtain clear running. After the 100 Metres, ALLEGRO was momentarily steadied away from the heels of SUPER DANA which for some distance had been racing tight inside PORT OF HOPE (P Payne) and on several occasions had been bumped by that horse which was shifting in. P Payne was advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. Throughout the race, SUPER DANA raced wide and without cover. A Marcus (TEA FOR CHAMP) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position. He said shortly after jumping it became apparent to him that TEA FOR CHAMP did not show sufficient pace to be part of the early speed and what seemed to be a solid tempo, he therefore elected to allow TEA FOR CHAMP to settle in a position further back than intended in the hope that it would run on in the Straight. He said when placed under pressure in the Straight, TEA FOR CHAMP did not respond and on pulling up made an abnormal breathing noise. TEA FOR CHAMP was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, TEA FOR CHAMP was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, TEA FOR CHAMP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPER DANA and UNIVERSAL GLORY were sent for sampling.
