Racing Incident Report
CUPID was withdrawn on 23.9.04 on veterinary grounds (right fore cannon abrasion wound) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TUSITALA (R Fradd). Before being allowed to race again, CUPID will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, MEMBERS GLORY got its head up and lost ground. Also on jumping, MAIN ATTRACTION and KNIGHT TEMPLAR bumped. CHINESE KID was slow to begin. In the early stages, STEP FORWARD and SHOW BRAVELY proved difficult to settle. Shortly after straightening, STEP FORWARD, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was checked when disappointed between SUPER DANA and SALUZI. After the 300 Metres, SHOW BRAVELY was steadied when unable to obtain clear running behind DOUBLE PLEASURE which was commencing to give ground. Near the 200 Metres, when SHOW BRAVELY and GREAT SENSATION were attempting to improve between DOUBLE PLEASURE which was giving ground and MAIN ATTRACTION which was carried in slightly by MEMBERS GLORY (O Doleuze), both horses were severely checked as a result of being disappointed for running. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied GREAT SENSATION and SHOW BRAVELY had been disappointed for running due to there being insufficient room for two horses to improve, O Doleuze nonetheless was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. After the 200 Metres, WINWIN COMBO, which was giving ground, was steadied between DOUBLE PLEASURE and SUPER DANA. Y T Cheng (GREAT SENSATION) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a rearward position as is usual. He said because of these instructions when the gates opened he came out on the horse's mouth to ensure it got back and settled. He said GREAT SENSATION travelled comfortably into the Home Straight, initially he considered following STAR OF SHANTOU through, however, formed the opinion that he may have difficulty obtaining a run, he therefore elected to shift GREAT SENSATION wider on the track. He said before the 200 Metres he commenced to shift to the outside of MAIN ATTRACTION into clear running, however, when he did this MAIN ATTRACTION shifted out, he therefore elected to switch back to the inside of MAIN ATTRACTION and shortly afterwards was checked when disappointed for running. He said after these incidents GREAT SENSATION finished the race off strongly. The explanation submitted by Y T Cheng was accepted. GREAT SENSATION was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GREAT SENSATION after the race did not show any significant findings. STAR OF SHANTOU and BARRACUDA were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted BARRACUDA had lost its left front plate.
