Racing Incident Report
As the gates opened, METRO FLYER put its head down, began awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground. From the outside gate, HONOURABLE shifted back behind runners to a position with cover. STRAIGHT SHOOTER began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped ZHI YOU SPIRIT. After this, STRAIGHT SHOOTER shifted back in and bumped SUPER PRINCE. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, SOUTH CHINA NINETY and MAGICAL LOT were steadied when crowded for room between WYNDAM PLENTY and SUPER PRINCE, both of which shifted ground. ACE KING, which was following, was steadied in consequence. After this, ACE KING hung out. Making the Home Turn, HAPPY ELITE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SOUTH CHINA NINETY. Near the 200 Metres, METRO FLYER and MAGICAL LOT bumped. After the 200 Metres, METRO FLYER was steadied and shifted to the outside of SUPER PRINCE to obtain clear running. Also after the 200 Metres, HAPPY ELITE was shifted to the inside of AUSPICIOUS ODYSSEY into clear running. Near the winning post, HAPPY ELITE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of WYNDAM PLENTY, therefore was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. For the major part of the race, SUPER PRINCE raced wide and without cover. ATHLETIC GOLD was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of ATHLETIC GOLD after the race did not show any significant findings. STRAIGHT SHOOTER was sent for an official veterinary examination. A subsequent veterinary inspection of STRAIGHT SHOOTER revealed no apparent abnormality. The performance of STRAIGHT SHOOTER was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, STRAIGHT SHOOTER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. METRO FLYER and WYNDAM PLENTY were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 6 December 2004)
HAPPY ELITE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the stables of Trainer P O'Sullivan yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse was lame in the right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY ELITE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
