Racing Incident Report

HENNESSY DAYS began awkwardly and got its head up. EXULTATION and SURE FORTUNE were slow to begin. Near the 1100 Metres, HENNESSY DAYS, which had been hard ridden to make up lost ground, was checked when crowded for room inside EXULTATION which itself was crowded for room inside WAFER KING which shifted in away from JUSTINIAN (A Delpech) after initially being carried in slightly when racing tight inside that horse. A Delpech was severely reprimanded and told to ensure he left comfortable racing room to runners on his inside. Approaching the 1000 Metres, ACCOLADE was checked to avoid the heels of WAFER KING which at this time was racing tight inside JUSTINIAN. At the 800 Metres, EXULTATION became unbalanced when momentarily crowded for room inside WAFER KING. In the early part of the Straight, CHEERFUL BOY was held up and unable to improve when racing behind WINNING PARADE which at this time got its head on the side and hung in. After the 200 Metres, when beginning to close the race off fairly, CHEERFUL BOY had some difficulty obtaining clear running between TABBRIS and DEVON FLAIR. In the Straight, SURE FORTUNE hung in. Throughout the race, ENCHANTED raced wide and without cover. C Williams (DEVON FLAIR) said the horse had drawn wide at its two most recent starts and because of this travelled back in the field wide and showed a tendency to hang out. He said today from a much better barrier he was asked to have the horse in a more forward position and ensure it had cover in the hope it would race more truly in what was anticipated to be a somewhat slowly run race. He said he was able to obtain a nice position on DEVON FLAIR and even though he had the rail the horse again today showed a tendency to hang out. He added the pace of today's race was faster than he had anticipated as a result of FAVOURITE RETURN travelling outside TABBRIS. The explanation submitted by C Williams was accepted. WINNING PARADE and HENNESSY DAYS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WINNING PARADE and HENNESSY DAYS after the race did not show any significant findings. CHEERFUL BOY, WAFER KING and ENCHANTED were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 31 January 2005)
WINNING PARADE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. WINNING PARADE was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Moore this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse was significantly lame in the right hind leg with a laceration to the right hind cannon. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING PARADE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
