Racing Incident Report
SOCRATES was withdrawn on 24.12.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (respiratory disease) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SHINING DAY. Before being allowed to race again, SOCRATES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Prior to the start being effected, WADADELIGHT reared. GOLD FIELD began awkwardly. SUMMERVILLE POWER was slow to begin. On jumping, TRAVIANO became unbalanced after being bumped by NASA PEARL. In the early and middle stages, TRIUMPH raced wide and without cover. At the 800 Metres, KING HESPERUS was hampered and carried wider by COTTON BALL which at this time was proving difficult to settle and shifted out away from the heels of ROYAL FALCON. At the 500 Metres, SHINING DAY, which was giving ground, was steadied when awkwardly placed between TRAVIANO and NASA PEARL. Also at the 500 Metres, GOLD FIELD was steadied when held up and unable to improve between KING HESPERUS and NASA PEARL which improved on its inside. At the 100 Metres, S Sanders (ROYAL FALCON) dropped his whip. In the Straight, GOLD FIELD got its head on the side and hung out. KING HESPERUS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KING HESPERUS after the race did not show any significant findings. COTTON BALL and SUMMERVILLE POWER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 28 December 2005)
KING HESPERUS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. KING HESPERUS was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be slightly lame in the left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, KING HESPERUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
