Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, MR GENKI, which had kicked a rail on the way to the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said the horse was suitable to race. On jumping, SUPER MARKSMAN was crowded for room between MR GENKI and STRAIGHT WIN which shifted in and then blundered. A Delpech (BE MY BRIDE) reported his saddle slipped back on jumping. Near the 800 Metres, PERFECT SCORE was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of TELEPRIDE which was carried in slightly by MR GENKI which shifted in when just clear. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SHANGHAI DELIGHT and STRAIGHT WIN bumped. In the middle stages, SUPER MARKSMAN hung out. Just prior to straightening, DYNAMIC COMBO was bumped by GOLD DIGGER which shifted out. On straightening, TORI TOP, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running behind SHANGHAI DELIGHT, shifted towards the outside of that horse and in doing so bumped STRAIGHT WIN. Also on straightening, GOLD DIGGER was steadied and shifted to the inside of COSMO STAR to go forward. For a short distance after straightening, BE MY BRIDE, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of JOY AND TREASURE. R Fradd (GOLD DIGGER) explained the intention had been to ride the horse in midfield or slightly better if he was able to obtain a position with cover. He said from a wide barrier he rode along initially, however, it soon became apparent to him that he would not be able to clear runners to his inside which were racing in a bunch, he therefore elected to allow his mount to come back. He said he was required to go back near the rear to obtain a position with cover and to avoid being caught wide. The explanation submitted by R Fradd was accepted. When questioned, Mr C Fownes, trainer of TELEPRIDE, said he was somewhat disappointed with the horse's performance in that it gave ground over about the final 200 Metres. He said TELEPRIDE was today having its first start in one month after being successful at its most recent start on a three day back-up. He said as a result of having two races in quick succession TELEPRIDE was somewhat flat after its last start and lost a significant amount of body weight. He said because of this he eased up on the horse to assist it in regaining weight and it was for this reason the horse did not work between 13 and 17 February 2005. The explanation of Mr Fownes was accepted. TELEPRIDE, COSMO STAR and MR GENKI were sent for sampling.
