Racing Incident Report

WINWIN COMBO, 1st Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 7.3.05 by order of the Stewards as the horse was subject to a stable transfer. DESERT STORM was slow to begin. C Williams (TABBRIS) pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that shortly after the start he permitted his mount to shift in when not properly clear of SHINING DRAGON, causing that horse to be carried in and in turn caused crowding on its inside to JUST TOO GOOD, DRAGON STRIDE and AURELIAN which as a result became unbalanced and lost its running. Having listened to further submissions put by C Williams in answer to the charge together with further evidence from O Doleuze (SHINING DRAGON) and B Prebble (JUST TOO GOOD), the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied the charge could be sustained and therefore the charge was not proceeded with. The evidence submitted by O Doleuze was that as TABBRIS was shifting in abruptly, he was aware that he would not be able to hold his position to the inside of that horse and he therefore steadied his mount to allow TABBRIS to cross in order to protect his fellow riders which had a bearing on the incident. C Williams however was severely reprimanded for shifting his mount in at an acute angle leading up to this incident. After the 100 Metres, RAINBOW DIAMOND shifted out and caused some inconvenience to DRAGON STRIDE. When questioned regarding the improved performance of TABBRIS, Mr A Lee, trainer of the horse, said at its most recent race start the horse in his opinion raced somewhat flat, he therefore decided to freshen the horse up. He said he elected to run TABBRIS in a race over 1650 Metres tonight as in his opinion the horse's best performances were when it was able to obtain an uncontested lead. He said by racing over 1650 Metres he felt TABBRIS would have a better chance of obtaining such a run in the race and in his opinion this explained the horse's improved performance. RED BARON was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, RED BARON, which after being slow to begin and being hard ridden throughout tailed out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being permitted to race again, RED BARON will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PURPLE GOLD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PURPLE GOLD after the race did not show any significant findings. TABBRIS and RAINBOW DIAMOND were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 10 March 2005)
RISING WIN was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the request of Trainer T W Leung this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have sustained an injury to the right eye. Before being allowed to race again, RISING WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
