Racing Incident Report
FUJI SUNRISE was slow to begin. ARROGANCE was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, LANCETTIER was steadied to avoid the heels of TRIUMPH which shifted in when barely clear. From the outside barrier, CHEERFUL HEART was taken back and shifted behind runners to obtain a position with cover. For some distance passing the 400 Metres, GREENESSY was checked when unable to improve between TRIUMPH and MASTER MARAUDER. After the 400 Metres, PILLOW KING was shifted to the outside of EXPEDITIOUS to obtain clear running. Near the 300 Metres, GREENESSY was steadied and shifted to the outside of MASTER MARAUDER to obtain clear running. Near the 250 Metres, AMPLE GAINS was hit over the head on two occasions by the whip of C Munce (VICTORY TREASURE). Near the 100 Metres, VICTORY TREASURE got its head on the side and shifted in away from CHEERFUL HEART. The performances of ENTERTAINING, ARROGANCE and LANCETTIER, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ENTERTAINING, ARROGANCE and LANCETTIER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Throughout the race, AMPLE GAINS raced wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of MASTER MARAUDER, Apprentice C W Wong said he had intended to lead and have the horse relaxed if he was able to do so without riding along. He said when the gates opened TRIUMPH went forward with MASTER MARAUDER and in his opinion to have crossed that horse would have required him to make too much use of MASTER MARAUDER and he therefore sat to the outside of TRIUMPH. He said when racing in this position MASTER MARAUDER would not relax for him and because of this today when stepping back up to 1800 Metres the horse failed to run out the distance of the race. MASTER MARAUDER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MASTER MARAUDER after the race did not show any significant findings. WINNING BULLET was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, WINNING BULLET, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat and an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have a substantial amount of blood in the trachea. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING BULLET will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FUJI SUNRISE and CHEERFUL HEART were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported EXPEDITIOUS had lost its left front plate.
