Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, NATURAL NINE sat back and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. EYE WITNESS, which was standing badly, began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, FILEBO, which was racing tight inside EYE WITNESS, was steadied away from the heels of LIVERBIRD. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, STRONG GAIN was steadied to avoid the heels of PO ON GEM (O Doleuze) which shifted in slightly when not properly clear. LUCKY DRAGON, which was following STRONG GAIN, got its head up when being checked to avoid the heels of that horse. O Doleuze was told to exercise more care. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, SMART CHAMPION hung out. Shortly after straightening, STRONG GAIN was steadied and shifted to the outside of PO ON GEM to obtain clear running. Also shortly after straightening, to obtain clear running, NATURAL NINE was steadied and shifted out from behind FAVOURITE RETURN which was giving ground. After the 400 Metres, EYE WITNESS was shifted to the inside of GOOD TO GREAT to obtain clear running, then after the 200 Metres when hanging out was momentarily crowded for room between GOOD TO GREAT and FILEBO which shifted out. After this, EYE WITNESS continued to hang out in the run to the post. Near the 300 Metres, O Doleuze dropped his whip. At the 100 Metres, GOOD TO GREAT was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY DRAGON. Then in the run to the line, GOOD TO GREAT was not ridden out as a consequence of being awkwardly placed outside the heels of LUCKY DRAGON. At the 50 Metres, HARRY HARRY became unbalanced when being steadied while awkwardly placed between SMART CHAMPION and NATURAL NINE. Throughout the race, PO ON GEM raced wide and without cover. Also throughout the race, FAVOURITE RETURN raced wide and without cover and in the Straight tailed out. The performance of FAVOURITE RETURN was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FAVOURITE RETURN will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The declaration of weighed-in was deferred as Mr C Fownes, trainer of NATURAL NINE, which dead heated for 3rd, requested to view the official photo finish. PO ON GEM was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PO ON GEM after the race did not show any significant findings. DISGUISE and STRONG GAIN were sent for sampling.
