Racing Incident Report

PILLOW KING began awkwardly, causing S Sanders, its rider, to become badly unbalanced. AMSTERDAM began awkwardly and then lost further ground when steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE WARRIOR. MILITARY OPTION began awkwardly. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, AMSTERDAM became unbalanced, shifted out and bumped BEST POWER which as a result was hampered. At the 1000 Metres, PILLOW KING was steadied away from the heels of BEST POWER. In the early stages, SUPER FANTASY, which was racing without cover, proved difficult to settle and after the 1000 Metres pulled its way forward to race outside the leader. Approaching the 200 Metres, AMSTERDAM, which was commencing to close the race off strongly, was steadied when disappointed for running between PHOENIX FORTUNE and SERIOUS PLAY which at this time shifted out. After this, AMSTERDAM was shifted to the outside of PHOENIX FORTUNE to obtain clear running. In the Straight, SERIOUS PLAY did not obtain clear running and as a consequence was not tested. For the major part of the race, FORTUNE BOY hung out. Throughout the race, FORTUNE WARRIOR raced wide and without cover. M W Leung (OSCAR STAR) said from a wide barrier he had been instructed to ensure he obtained a position with cover and he hoped this would be somewhere around midfield. He said OSCAR STAR began well, shortly after the start he believed if he had ridden forward to clear FORTUNE WARRIOR, he would have been left racing without cover. He said because of this approaching the winning post on the first occasion he steadied his mount and shifted across behind runners to ensure he had cover. He said when being taken back OSCAR STAR did not relax and travelled keenly. FORTUNE WARRIOR and SUPER FANTASY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, FORTUNE WARRIOR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE WARRIOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SUPER FANTASY after the race did not show any significant findings. AMSTERDAM, BEST POWER and FORTUNE SMILES were sent for sampling.
