Racing Incident Report

ESPRIT D'OR began awkwardly and lost ground. FIGS began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. PULL NO PUNCH began awkwardly. After the 1200 Metres, SUPER WINNER was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GOLDEN MILE. Making the turn at the 1100 Metres, ESPRIT D'OR got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FIGS. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, PULL NO PUNCH was bumped by AWESOME EAGLE which got its head on the side and shifted in. Also making the turn at the 700 Metres, SUPER WINNER became unbalanced when awkwardly placed between HAPPY HEROES and FUN CRUISER. Prior to straightening, AWESOME EAGLE was steadied and shifted to the outside of BIG WINNER. Also, SUPER WINNER was steadied and shifted to the outside of SHINING LIGHT. For some distance after straightening, MAXIMUM JOY was held up and unable to improve behind JUST IN TIME and inside PULL NO PUNCH. At the 250 Metres, SHINING LIGHT was shifted to the inside of MAXIMUM JOY to obtain clear running. Approaching the 200 Metres, SUPER WINNER had difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 50 Metres, FIGS was steadied when unable to obtain clear running between HAPPY HEROES and LUCKY YEARS. Throughout the race, BIG WINNER travelled wide and without cover. G Mossé (GOLDEN MILE) explained from a wide barrier and racing over the increased distance of 1650 Metres today he was instructed if he was able to lead without making use of the horse he should do so or otherwise take a position in 4th or 5th. He said GOLDEN MILE began well, he rode it along initially, however, it soon became apparent to him that it would not be able to obtain a forward position, he therefore elected to allow GOLDEN MILE to settle in about midfield to ensure it had cover. He said GOLDEN MILE travelled satisfactorily until the 600 Metres, however, at that stage of the race was under pressure and was inclined to lay out. He said in the Straight GOLDEN MILE kept on one-paced, however, at the 200 Metres was well beaten and in his opinion did not run out the distance of today's race. When questioned regarding the improved performance of MAXIMUM JOY, Trainer T W Leung said the riding instructions for the horse had been consistent, however, from a more favourable draw today MAXIMUM JOY was able to obtain a position behind the lead on the rail. He said this allowed MAXIMUM JOY to have a breather mid-race and consequently finished the race off. He said when MAXIMUM JOY last raced over the course and distance, it travelled three wide in a forward position without cover and was hard ridden to maintain its position. He said on that occasion MAXIMUM JOY commenced to give ground at the 600 Metres and was most disappointing. He said after that run at its last start MAXIMUM JOY performed much better when racing on the turf and as such he gave the horse a place chance in today's race. AWESOME EAGLE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, AWESOME EAGLE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was blowing heavily with abnormal breathing which in his opinion indicated a soft palate problem. JUST TOO GOOD were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of JUST TOO GOOD after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of JUST TOO GOOD, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, JUST TOO GOOD will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MAXIMUM JOY and LUCKY YEARS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted BIG WINNER had sustained a laceration to its right nostril and FIGS was displaying heat stress. Before being allowed to race again, FIGS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
