Racing Incident Report

GLORY YEARS was withdrawn on 17.1.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SPEED FIGHTER. Before being allowed to race again, GLORY YEARS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HONG KONG GEM was a little slow to begin, shifted out and bumped FOURSQUARE, then shortly afterwards lost further ground when checked as a result of being crowded for room between LIBERAL'S RIDE which was carried out by SUPERB and FOURSQUARE which was carried in by WITHALLMYHEART. SUNRISE LINING was slow to begin. CRUSADER OF GOLD began awkwardly. Near the 1100 Metres, LIBERAL'S RIDE became unbalanced and lost ground when awkwardly placed between SUPERB and FOURSQUARE. After this, for the remainder of the race, LIBERAL'S RIDE raced greenly. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, FOURSQUARE got its head up and raced ungenerously. CRUSADER OF GOLD made the turn at the 600 Metres awkwardly, shifted out and was checked away from the heels of LIBERAL'S RIDE. Making the Home Turn, SUPERB was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TREASURE COLT. Near the 200 Metres, FOURSQUARE was brushed by SUPERB which shifted out. At the 50 Metres, SUNRISE LINING was steadied when crowded for room between HONG KONG GEM and SPEED FIGHTER which when giving ground shifted in. Throughout the race, SPEED FIGHTER raced wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of FOURSQUARE, E Saint-Martin said the intention had been to ride the horse in about midfield with cover if possible. He said at its last start FOURSQUARE did not begin well, was then checked and as a consequence raced well back. He said because of this tonight he made sure FOURSQUARE began well and when he did this FOURSQUARE immediately travelled into a forward position and because of the pace of the race was not able to obtain a position with cover and raced outside the leader. He said FOURSQUARE relaxed for him, however, on straightening and again at about the 50 Metres when giving ground made an abnormal breathing noise. He did say in his opinion FOURSQUARE will be better suited when able to obtain a position with cover in the run. FOURSQUARE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, FOURSQUARE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said he noted the horse to have minor wounds to both hind tendons and an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FOURSQUARE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TREASURE COLT and KAO AND MING were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported LIBERAL'S RIDE had sustained a wound to the left knee. Before being allowed to race again, LIBERAL'S RIDE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
