Racing Incident Report

Whilst in the holding stalls prior to the running of Race 1, TOUCH DOWN lost its right hind plate. The horse was re-plated and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. KING OF SPADES was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, MR BEAUTIFUL bumped ALL OUR WAY after being carried out by BARAKA which was carried out by FOREVER WIN which in turn was carried wider by JUBILOSO which on jumping shifted out. Near the 200 Metres, JUBILOSO and BARAKA bumped as a result of BARAKA being carried in slightly by SOARING ANGEL. For some distance after this, BARAKA and JUBILOSO continued to race tight. Near the 150 Metres, BARAKA was checked severely and blundered when crowded for room between SOARING ANGEL (E Saint-Martin) which initially shifted in slightly, then shifted further as a result of contact being made on its hindquarters by BARAKA and JUBILOSO (B Prebble) which shifted out as a result of pressure being applied to its hindquarters by BARAKA. Whilst the incident was one of significance, the Stewards did believe there were contributing circumstances and as such B Prebble and E Saint-Martin were advised to do their utmost to protect their fellow riders. After the 200 Metres, WINWIN COMBO, which was closing the race off, was steadied and shifted to the inside of SNIPER to continue going forward. Near the 100 Metres, WINWIN COMBO was again steadied and at this time shifted to the outside of SNIPER which drifted in. At the 100 Metres, KING OF SPADES was steadied and shifted to the inside of SOARING ANGEL which was giving ground. Y T Cheng (BARAKA) explained coming into the Home Straight he was following SOARING ANGEL and he then after straightening took his mount to the inside of that horse as he had been instructed not to come out making the Home Turn. He said when he did this JUBILOSO immediately commenced to improve on his inside. S Dye (ALL OUR WAY) said the manner in which tonight's race was run did not suit the horse. He said in the past ALL OUR WAY had been best suited when the pace of the race quickened prior to the 600 Metres. He said however tonight the tempo of the race did not increase at that stage and as such when the field quickened after straightening ALL OUR WAY was left flat-footed. He said ALL OUR WAY commenced to make some ground near the 200 Metres, however, shortly afterwards when BARAKA checked in front of him he steadied ALL OUR WAY away from that horse and it then did not close the race off. He did say in his opinion the performance of ALL OUR WAY was attributable to the manner in which tonight's race was run. ALL OUR WAY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ALL OUR WAY after the race did not show any significant findings. JUBILOSO and SNIPER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported JUBILOSO had lost its right hind plate.
