Racing Incident Report
SURE FORTUNE was slow to begin. AMBITION began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of RAINBOW EXPRESS. TRIUMPHANT GLORY began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped THUNDER STORM. Approaching the 1000 Metres, THUNDER STORM and TRIUMPHANT GLORY were crowded for room inside HIGHLAND DAWN which at this time got its head on the side and hung in despite the efforts of E Saint-Martin, its rider. HIGHLAND DAWN continued to travel wide and without cover throughout the race and in the Straight gave ground. A protest/objection was lodged by G Mossé, the rider of 5th placegetter, HAPPY SUNDAY, against RAINBOW EXPRESS (C Brown) being declared dead-heat 3rd placegetter for alleged interference near the 1000 Metres was overruled. The evidence disclosed that near the 1000 Metres HAPPY SUNDAY changed legs, shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters of RAINBOW EXPRESS which then shifted in slightly. In the circumstances, the Stewards did not believe RAINBOW EXPRESS was wholly responsible for any interference received by HAPPY SUNDAY. After entering the Back Straight, JADE DANCER, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head on the side and shifted in. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, JADE DANCER was bumped by HAPPY SUNDAY which shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of RAINBOW EXPRESS. As a result of this, JADE DANCER carried TRIUMPHANT GLORY out across the heels of HIGHLAND DAWN which was continuing to hang in, causing TRIUMPHANT GLORY to be checked. Shortly after straightening, HAPPY SUNDAY was steadied when disappointed for running inside RAINBOW EXPRESS. For some distance after this, HAPPY SUNDAY continued to be awkwardly placed close to the heels of RAINBOW EXPRESS. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, SURE FORTUNE was held up and unable to improve when close to the heels of AMBITION, then at the 100 Metres was again steadied when close to the heels of GOLDEN WIN. After this, SURE FORTUNE was shifted out and over the concluding stages was awkwardly placed between GOLDEN WIN and AMBITION. As a consequence, SURE FORTUNE was not properly tested. At the 200 Metres, KAO AND MING, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of JADE DANCER. Over the final 200 Metres, GOLDEN WIN was unable to obtain clear running and as a consequence was not tested. HAPPY SUNDAY was not ridden out right to the winning post when it was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MY PRIDE. GOLDEN WIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN WIN after the race did not show any significant findings. HAPPY SUNDAY, MY PRIDE and KAO AND MING were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted AMBITION had lost its left front plate.
