Racing Incident Report

GLOBAL LEADER was withdrawn on 22.4.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GOLDEN WIN (G Mossé). Before being allowed to race again, GLOBAL LEADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, SO NICE lost ground when awkwardly placed between FLYING DAGGER which shifted out and GOLDEN WIN. DANSING FUN, after beginning well, with the intention of being ridden quietly, was steadied and shifted across behind runners. DOUBLE FANTASY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After the 1000 Metres, ESPOIR D'OR was steadied away from the heels of FLY ME TO THE MOON which was momentarily steadied away from the heels of FLYING DAGGER (F Coetzee) which shifted in when not properly clear. F Coetzee was reprimanded and told to exercise more care. DOUBLE FANTASY, which was following ESPOIR D'OR, was checked to avoid the heels of that horse. At the 800 Metres, ESPOIR D'OR was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SO NICE which at this time was racing tight inside SPLENDID SAILS. At the 700 Metres, SO NICE, which was hanging out badly and was ridden to hold its position inside SPLENDID SAILS, shifted out and was checked to avoid the heels of SPLENDID SAILS. After this, SO NICE continued to hang out. The performance of SO NICE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SO NICE will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. Throughout the race, SUNRISE STRIKER travelled wide and without cover and making the Home Turn hung out. When questioned, S Dye (CIRCULAR MACHINE) said when racing at Happy Valley at its last start from a favourable draw he had led, however, CIRCULAR MACHINE proved difficult to settle and hung out. He added CIRCULAR MACHINE is a nervy type of horse which usually begins well and travels forward of its own doing. He said today from the outside barrier the intention was to have the horse travelling where it was comfortable if possible and it was anticipated this would be in around 4th or 5th position. He said in the early stages when caught wide on CIRCULAR MACHINE he elected to steady and shift across behind runners in an attempt to have the horse settled rather than ride it along to race outside the lead. He did say CIRCULAR MACHINE travelled further back than was anticipated. DANSING FUN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DANSING FUN after the race did not show any significant findings. FLYING DAGGER, CIRCULAR MACHINE and CAGA BOY were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported HEALTHY had bled from both nostrils.
