Racing Incident Report

Whilst proceeding to the pre-race weighing scale, BEETHOVEN made contact with another horse and became fractious. Acting on veterinary advice that BEETHOVEN had sustained multiple lacerations and abrasions to both fore legs, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, BEETHOVEN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. In the Parade Ring, SILVER SUN had an adjustment made to its left front plate. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. SUPER COMBED was slow to begin, then shortly afterwards lost further ground as a result of being checked when crowded for room between WILLIE DETROY which shifted in and SATURN which was carried out by AGILITY which in turn was carried wider by VERY FIT which shifted after being bumped by LIGHTNING STAR. In this incident, AGILITY and SATURN were also crowded for room and lost ground. In the early stages, SATURN proved difficult to settle. At the 1300 Metres, SILVER SUN, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of LIGHTNING STAR which shifted in. For some distance after this, SILVER SUN continued to prove difficult to settle. At the 300 Metres, SILVER SUN was steadied away from the heels of LIGHTNING STAR. In the Straight, FLAMING LAMBORGINI hung in. When questioned, D Whyte (FLAMING LAMBORGINI) said the action of his horse in the run to the line was shortening. He said because of this near the 50 Metres as SUPER COMBED and HAIL THE STORM which were closing the race off strongly improved on his outside, he put the whip away and used his reins to have FLAMING LAMBORGINI change lead legs in the hope the horse would continue striding out to the line. He said he immediately resumed riding FLAMING LAMBORGINI with the whip after the horse had changed lead legs. As the Stewards were of the opinion the riding of D Whyte on FLAMING LAMBORGINI did not affect the horse's finishing position, no action was taken, however, he was told his riding at this point of the race had come under notice. F Coetzee (WILLIE DETROY) said in the run to the first turn he was obliged to race three wide and without cover in a forward position. He said because of this he then went on to cross LUCKSWELL near the 800 Metres. He said however after making some use of WILLIE DETROY in the middle stages the horse did not finish the race off. WILLIE DETROY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. SILVER SUN and DR WELL were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WILLIE DETROY, SILVER SUN and DR WELL after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPER COMBED and HAIL THE STORM were sent for sampling.
