Racing Incident Report

At declaration time, A Starke was declared as the rider of both KINGIFLY and GALLANT KNIGHT. It was established that A Starke had a firm commitment to ride KINGIFLY. As such, the Stewards permitted M Nunes to be substituted as the rider of GALLANT KNIGHT. Mr A T Millard, trainer of GALLANT KNIGHT, was fined $2,000 for this error. TRAVEL CONSULTANT was slow to begin. ZAVONE began awkwardly, got its head up and then shifted in abruptly after initially being carried in by BULB TREASURE. On jumping, CHATER POWER was crowded for room between KINGIFLY and PACIFIC ADVANTAGE which initially shifted in of its own accord, then was carried in further by GIGA SPIRITS. At the 300 Metres, TRAVEL CONSULTANT was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between CHATER POWER and PACIFIC ADVANTAGE. For some distance after the 300 Metres, GIGA SPIRITS was held up and unable to improve between GRAND COMMANDS and PLEZAYRE. After this, GIGA SPIRITS was shifted in to obtain clear running. Approaching the 200 Metres, GALLANT KNIGHT hung in away from GIGA SPIRITS. After the 200 Metres, HAR HAR CHARMS, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was checked when disappointed for running between GRAND COMMANDS which shifted out slightly and DIVINE TOUCH (G Mossé) which when giving ground shifted in. The Stewards were satisfied G Mossé stopped riding and straightened his mount as soon as it could be expected and therefore no action was taken. After this, HAR HAR CHARMS did not obtain clear running for the remainder of the race and therefore was not properly tested. When questioned regarding the poor performance of KINGIFLY, A Starke was unable to offer an explanation. He said he had ridden KINGIFLY in work on several occasions since its last race and he believed on the strength of this work the horse had improved. He said KINGIFLY travelled satisfactorily in the early stages, however, when placed under pressure near the 400 Metres appeared to become unbalanced in its action and get its head up. He said after this KINGIFLY did not close the race off at all. KINGIFLY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of KINGIFLY after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of KINGIFLY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KINGIFLY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PACIFIC ADVANTAGE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, PACIFIC ADVANTAGE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said he noted PACIFIC ADVANTAGE had lost its right hind plate and an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, PACIFIC ADVANTAGE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GIGA SPIRITS and ZAVONE were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported TRAVEL CONSULTANT and ZAVONE had bled from both nostrils and GRAND COMMANDS had lost its right hind plate.
