Racing Incident Report
PALIO KING was withdrawn on 15.5.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (stiff and restricted action). Before being allowed to race again, PALIO KING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, ABLE STANDARD and CHAMP DRAGON bumped. Shortly after the start, THUNDER STORM shifted out after being bumped by FAST TRACK and in doing so made contact with NEW TRIUMPH. Also shortly after the start, ABLE STANDARD and STAR OF FAME bumped. In the early stages, NEW TRIUMPH proved difficult to settle. Apprentice C W Wong (NEW TRIUMPH) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of ABLE STANDARD, causing that horse to be checked and lose its rightful running. Apprentice Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 31 May 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Thursday 24 May 2007. In addition, Apprentice Wong was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, CARE FREE MIDAS was awkwardly placed inside the hindquarters of FAST TRACK. Making the Home Turn, FAST TRACK hung out. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, THAT'S IT had difficulty obtaining clear running. When questioned, W M Lai (CHAMP DRAGON), which was having its first start after having an illness enforced let-up, said he was instructed to allow the horse to find its feet and travel where it was comfortable. He said in addition he was told in the Straight to ensure the horse finished the race off. He said CHAMP DRAGON travelled comfortably and when ridden out hands and heels, the horse responded fairly, however, did not quicken appreciably when hit with the whip after the 200 Metres, therefore he continued to ride his mount out hands and heels in the run to the line. Mr C Fownes, trainer of CHAMP DRAGON, confirmed the instructions issued to W M Lai. He said as a result of the horse having a setback in its preparation, it had missed some work in early April. He said in his opinion CHAMP DRAGON will derive benefit from tonight's race. O Doleuze (STAR OF FAME) said because of the manner in which the race was run he was not able to obtain a position with cover. He said near the 900 Metres there was interference to his inside and as a result of this he was obliged to continue racing in a three wide position. He said the performance of STAR OF FAME was nonetheless disappointing and in his opinion the horse was at least entitled to respond in the early part of the Straight. He said he was not able to offer an explanation for STAR OF FAME which appeared "flat" over the concluding stages. STAR OF FAME was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of STAR OF FAME after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, STAR OF FAME will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NEW TRIUMPH was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of NEW TRIUMPH after the race did not show any significant findings. CARE FREE MIDAS and THAT'S IT were sent for sampling.
