Racing Incident Report

On jumping, GO BRITANNIA was carried wider by FAVOURITE SUPREME which in turn was carried out by MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP. After the 1200 Metres, GO BRITANNIA, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP. After the 600 Metres, VIKING TOR was steadied when crowded for room inside MONEY MAN which at this time was carried in slightly by BULLISH WIN. Prior to straightening, HIGH INTELLIGENT was steadied when crowded for room between THISTLE KING and VIKING TOR (P H Lo) which at this time shifted out. P H Lo was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. At the 50 Metres, SPARKLING STAR, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied when disappointed for running between BRILLIANT FLASH and SURE JOY which shifted in after being bumped by BOLD WIN. After this, SPARKLING STAR did not obtain clear running and therefore was not ridden out to the end of the race. Over about the final 50 Metres, HIGH INTELLIGENT was not able to obtain clear running. For the major part of the race, THISTLE KING travelled wide and without cover. Apprentice C W Wong (SURE JOY) explained despite the increase in distance of today’s race to 1400 Metres, he was instructed not to make use of the horse in the early stages from the inside barrier. He said these instructions were the same as last start for SURE JOY and similar to the manner in which the horse raced when it was successful after being slow to begin two starts ago. He said today SURE JOY again failed to close the race off as hoped and said in races run at a slow tempo the horse may be ridden further forward in future. H W Lai (UNIQUE SPEED) explained he had been instructed to ride his mount in 3rd or 4th position if possible. He said UNIQUE SPEED began well and immediately travelled into the bridle. He said after the 1200 Metres he noticed runners to his inside commenced to steady, he therefore rode along to cross to the lead to avoid being caught wide without cover. E Saint-Martin (FAVOURITE SUPREME) said approaching the 600 Metres he rode along in an endeavour to shift away from the fence to prevent being held up for clear running. He said as he did this GO BRITANNIA was ridden along to go forward with him on his outside. He said at the 500 Metres BOLD WIN commenced to shift out and GO BRITANNIA continued forward on his outside, he therefore elected to steady his mount to avoid receiving interference and to ensure he was able to get to the outside to obtain clear running in the Home Straight. BULLISH WIN and UNIQUE SPEED were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was carried out on THISTLE KING at the request of Trainer J Size. The Veterinary Officer said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, THISTLE KING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
