Racing Incident Report

LORD CAIRNS was withdrawn on 30.1.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetance) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CENAMIRA (S K Sit). Before being allowed to race again, LORD CAIRNS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JOYFUL UNION began awkwardly, causing its rider, B Prebble, to become unbalanced. DANZIGMOUNTAIN was slow to begin and then was steadied away from the heels of CHINA SPORTFIELD. On jumping, NAMJONG MONEY and CENAMIRA bumped. WISHING WELL began awkwardly. In the early stages, despite being ridden along, CHEERFUL HAPPINESS failed to muster speed and then travelled wide and without cover until after the 1000 Metres. After the 400 Metres, AURELIAN was disappointed for running between STAR PRODIGY and CENAMIRA. At this time, AURELIAN and CENAMIRA bumped and became unbalanced. Near the 250 Metres, Apprentice H W Lai (AURELIAN) dropped his whip. For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, WISHING WELL had difficulty obtaining clear running and was then steadied and shifted out. After the 200 Metres, JOYFUL UNION became unbalanced when racing between STAR PRODIGY and PLEASURE PLEASURE. Apprentice K L Chui (CHINA SPORTFIELD) said because of the fast tempo in the early stages of the race he had to make use of CHINA SPORTFIELD to travel in a forward position as instructed. He said in the middle stages CHINA SPORTFIELD which was racing in side winkers for the first occasion and was travelling without cover got its head on the side and hung out away from PLEASURE PLEASURE. He said CHINA SPORTFIELD continued to hang out until after entering the Straight when it commenced to give ground. He said in his opinion the poor performance of CHINA SPORTFIELD was due to him being required to make use of the horse in the early stages and that it did not travel comfortably in the run. F Coetzee (PROFIT HILL), which was racing for the first time over 1650 Metres, said from the outside barrier the intention had been to lead and endeavour to control the race from the front. He said PROFIT HILL was not the best to begin, however, was able to work across to the lead without being made use of near the 1300 Metres. He said after crossing to the fence he endeavoured to relax PROFIT HILL, however, the horse would not drop the bit and travelled like a horse which is accustomed to racing over shorter distances. He said after entering the Back Straight whilst he was aware PROFIT HILL was opening up a gap on the field, he continued to endeavour to have the horse drop the bit, however, at no stage did PROFIT HILL properly relax for him. PROFIT HILL, WIN FORTUNE and CHINA SPORTFIELD were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PROFIT HILL and CHINA SPORTFIELD after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, WIN FORTUNE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had an intermittent displacement of the soft palate. CHEERFUL HAPPINESS, DANZIGMOUNTAIN and COULDN'T CARE LESS were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 1 February 2007)
PROFIT HILL, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. PROFIT HILL was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer S Woods this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a stiff action. Before being allowed to race again, PROFIT HILL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
